Big Day Out owners apply to Adelaide City Council to hold music festival in Bonython Park instead of Adelaide Showgrounds

THE Big Day Out music festival is set to be held in the Adelaide parklands for the first time in its 22-year history.

Organisers have applied to the City Council to move next year's festival, on January 31, from the Adelaide Showgrounds to Bonython Park.

Access to Bonython Park would be restricted for a fortnight while stages are set up and dismantled, though the cycling path along the River Torrens would remain open except for the day of the festival.

Councillors will decide next month whether to approve a lease for the event, following a public consultation period ending Tuesday, July 16.

Interesting. The best BDO was still the first at Adelaide Uni

I haven't been to a BDO since 2005, but I'd much rather it there than at Bonython Park. I always wished Soundwave would go to the Showgrounds.

Yep the hot rumour has finally been announced pearl jam is the headline act at next years big day out. Can't wait! Let's hope that means that pearl jam are a lot louder & loose than there last concert here at Adelaide oval, which seemed to have a early curfew hence was a more sedated performance.

Soundwave might be able to attract a bigger line-up with no competition thinning out the talent?

I hope so, but we have to wait until August to see if the lineup is worth it.

2 day festival next year by the sounds of it. 21/22 Feb. Probably means less stages/clashes. Melb festival to be held at the same time, with the bands who play in Melb on the Saturday playing in Adelaide on the Sunday, and vise versa. Unusual.

True, but it just might work.

If it's all true, there will be:

- Approximately 90 bands
- 7 stages, not 12,
- Longer set times
- The opportunity to see more bands who only play night shows. Previously, some bands were turned away because of this.
