I brought in Fyfe and Nicnat in replacement of mcintosh and Watson so worked well there. Still not safe though, word is selwood may withdraw tomorrow and I have no cover where cork has Shenton. Will be close.
Loving Wards form, besides his 2 injuries/subbed games, he has been ripping it up!

I completely got out of jail. I got cute and traded Tyson who was playing (with a high BE) instead of the injured Jobe and then watched in horror as first SJ and then Beams pulled out leaving me with a donut and O'Brien 35 on field.

Couldn't beat Richo who had two donuts. Haven't cracked 2300 all year. See you next season. :(

2 late outs on Sunday with Johnson and Beams and scored 2177.

Very happy with that cause didn't think I would get the win.

18 Longwood Lions 1 10 0 22222 22796 97.48 4

The defending premier Q is back in town and back in the eight after posting a solid 2428 which was more than enough to smash the suddenly out of form Spuds. The Spuds slipped out of the eight and copped a battering in the percentage as well, now they have two owies. Premier League newcomers Has Been and Buddy Franklin both made strong statements on the weekend that would suggest they are right at home in the top four in the top flight. Has Been won a high scoring match against an unlucky Underdogs who posted the league's highest losing score of the round, 2366. Buddy Franklin announced themselves as a genuine contender after they caned the ladder leaders by 202 points.

Many sides copped some low scores this week with late outs hitting the majority of teams hard. Any team that didn't have midfield cover, or for those who got funky with loopholes were badly burnt. A few teams carded low scores and got the win and here are the nomination for the Port Power Kissed on the Dick Award for sheer jaggery. Hondo SCC is a scoring beast when on song but they got the win with 2101 to beat an unlucky MILLER MOSQUITOES who got close but not close enough. Richo got two donuts but REBCats new signing Nick Riewodlt failed to get a kick so CoverKing got the points and now looks set to make the eight. The Ginger Ninajs also failed to get 2200 but managed to record a win this week as the wheels well and truly fell off for the cyrilanddayleshow.

It was bad news for Poon Army as they lost by a mere four points against Hawkeye who is fighting hard to retain his place in the top flight after some fine recent victories. Woggy was one of those smart coaches that opted for McGovern this week and even though I advised Troy to do the same he did not and now the Army has marched into the Relegation zone. It might in fact be bad news for all of the teams that are currently outside of the top eight because I have a horrible feeling that none of us are consistent enough to overhaul the current eight sides. So unless you get relegated, there's always next year but while there is life, there's hope.

Round 12 Preview

REBCats vs. Squeakeroos DTC

Unless you are one of the monster teams, achieving a sustained run of form has proven difficult to achieve in this league. Both the Cats and Squeaky were travelling OK a few weeks ago but they've both fallen out of the top eight since the end of the bye period. As posted above I have a horrible feeling that the eight might be set but the winner of this clash will have some claims. Squeaky has a solid squad but looks light on in defence but the Cats have a multitude of big names who just aren't scoring. Even though the Cats form is really putrid, Squeaky isn't going all that much better and I reckon I can pinch the win. My tip - REBCats.

Captain Who? vs. Spuds

Spuds are another team who has lost that winning feeling but the Captain is making a belated dash at the eight. The Captain can't afford any more slip ups here and Spuds is exactly the type of team Groover needs to beat on a weekly basis to complete what would be a remarkable comeback. Groover has a couple of handy PODs in Boomer and Lobbe but even though the Spuds will welcome back Steve Johnson he still has some dodgy forwars with Zac Merret getting a gig as the FWD 6. The Captain will stay alive for another week. My tip - Captain Who?

Richo Richo Man vs. cyrilanddayleshow

Both teams had the same two donuts last week but Richo outscored cyril by nearly 200 points so this result alone shows that there is a gap between these two sides. CoverKing has the better of wycbloods in the Hogg although last season bloods turned the tables. This year it looks to be normal service being resumed with cyril starting to look very wobbly indeed while CoverKing is back in the habit of jagging arsey wins. Cyril looks a couple short in the backline and that won't do against the inform Richo. My tip - Richo Richo Man.

Q Before You vs. Cork in the Ocean

The reigning premier announced that have decided to get amongst this year after all after they posted their first good score of the year last week. The backline and mids are now packed with some decent high scoring PODS although Q still hasn't got that forward line right. If Hanley, Bartel, Ward and Liberatore keep scoring the way they are that won't matter. This week they play the heir apparent Corky who put in a very poor score last week and will need to hit back hard if they want to stay on top of the ladder. Corky has only won three of their last five so the early season aura has vanished. Of course, it doesn't help with two premium midfield donuts and Tom falling off a Rockliff as well. I reckon Q's guns won't go gangbusters this week and his forwards will continue to be the Achille's heel as I expect Corky to hit back with a win. My tip - Cork in the Ocean.

The Ginger Ninjas vs. Poon Army

This time last year Poon was top of ladder but scoring bugger all. In recent weeks they've been scoring well and losing matches. I know what Hammo would prefer. This week they face a fellow long term tennant of the Premier League in The Ginger Ninjas. The winner here will go a long way to avoiding the drop and the loser is in big trouble. Brodie Smith has been a brilliant pick up for Gingernuts but this team still contains dodgy players like Grimes, Martin, Laidler, Fasalo, Cameron and Lloyd. Poon has been consistently outscoring the Ninjas in recent weeks and this time he will finally break through for a much needed victory. My tip - Poon Army. (Sorry mate, I've tipped you again!)

Buddy Franklin vs. Underdogs

This is a top quality match up between two consistently high scoring teams. It's a vital match for the Underdogs who need to beat Buddy to take his top four spot. Buddy has the best defence in the league with Grant Birchall in DEF 6! However, in order to achieve this there is one notable omission in the Franklin line-up, one Scott Pendlebury. Gibbo does have Pendlebury but doesn't have that gun defence and they also have a week MID 8 in Port's Mitchell. I think the key to this match is the performance of the unpredictable Roughead. If Roughy gets amongst the points against the Pies then I reckon the Dogs are a big show. However, I can't see a monster score coming up for Roughy, at least not big enough to make up for the advantages that Buddy appears to have. My tip - Buddy Franklin in a close one.

Hawkeye vs. Longwood Lions

Since the introduction of the 18 team leagues, we no longer have relegation playoff matches in the Hogg. However, this match appears to be the closest thing to it. These two sides are the lowest scoring teams in the league but if Alaska can't win this one then Hawkeye will go two games clear of the Lions with five matches to play. Longwood Lions simply must win this game. Looking at the Lions lineup it's hard to work out how they keep losing. Alaska has traded his way out of early trouble but is yet to be rewarded for it. I'm tipping this week that the Lions will break their run of outs and stay in the hunt to remain in the top flight. My tip - Longwood Lions.

Has Been vs. Hondo SCC MATCH OF THE ROUND

Has Been and Buddy Franklin are two promoted sides that have taken the Premier League by storm this season. Both sides are in red hot form at the moment but Hondo's form is even better. Even when Hondo misfires he still wins matches so that spells trouble for the Beeners in this match. For such a highly rated side there are a few players that could do anything or nothing such as Chad Wingard, Nick Nat and Hibberd. This makes them very dangerous indeed. Hondo might not have scored all that much last week but his ceiling is massive with Jab Watson still in the lineup and with Johnson and Beams to return. That could equal three additional premiums in the mid for this match. I reckon Hondo held back on trades last week and risked a loss but won anyway. In this match he'll make the move to keep a genuine contender at bay. My tip - Hondo SCC.

Darksiders SCE vs. MILLER MOSQUITOES

I believe that this match is the easiest to tip in the Premier League this week with the MOSQUITOES not having the cattle to challenge the Premier League heavyweight Darksiders. MILLERS are heading dangerously close to the relegation zone and this match won't help their chances. Darksiders are simply better on every line and it's hard to see anything else occuring but a Darksiders victory. My tip - Darksiders SCE.

Well, if I can't beat Squeaky this week then I'm done for the year I reckon. I'll tip against myself every week for the rest of the season. Especially against Troy who always loses whenever I pick him. As far as my hopes go I'm praying that Q doesn't go big again this week and that Corky gets the chocolates to keep the door open for the rest of us. If Q wins that door might go CLANG.

Speaking of Troy his match against Gingernuts is the biggest of his Hogg career and if Alaska can't get the points against Woggy he faces the very real prospect of returning to Division I next season.

Smooth move by Squeaky. He's loopholed Dusty's 148. I need Ablett to score that against the Cats.

18 Longwood Lions 2 10 0 24482 24933 98.19 8

Three teams have broken away from the others after the 12th round in the Hogg Premier. Cork in the Ocean outlasted the reigning premier to remain on top of the heap and Buddy Franklin and Hondo saw off strong challengers from contenders Underdogs and Has Been respectively. These results now mean there is a two game buffer between third and fourth.

Has Been, Q, Underdogs and Richo Richo Man all had slip ups this weekend but the biggest upset for a top eight side this week was MILLER MOSQUITOES knocking off the Darksiders. If I had to nominate a 'safe bet' from last weekend's Premier League fixtures that one would have been the one I would have picked. Teams that were outside of the eight who got the benefit from this week were the REBCats who won their crucial battle against Squeaky and cyrilanddayleshow who beat his brother and kept their slim finals hopes alive. Captain Who continued on his 'Dutchy-like' charge into the top eight with another win but the Spuds were very unlucky to lose as the wheels fell off on Sunday.

Longwood Lions have been threatening to break through for a win for several weeks now and this week he duly saluted over Hawkeye who lost a big chance to put Alaska away this week. The Lions didn't gain that much ground though because Poon Army defeated the Ginger Ninjas so that meant Hawkeye dropped back into the relegation zone. The loss to Poon and victories to all of their neighbours has really put the heat back on to the Ninjas who are now facing relegation worries yet again, as they have for most of this season.

Round 13 Preview

Squeakeroos DTC vs. Spuds

This is a battle between two sides who were travelling nicely a few weeks ago but have hit something of a speed bump in recent weeks. Squeaky in particular has hit the wall in recent weeks despite having some excellent scorers in Mumford and Ffye. The Spuds were badly let down last week by their Carlton contingent with Simpson spudding it up and Murphy not even suiting up. I believe both players will contribute a lot more than last week against the old enemy Collingwood and this injection of points could swing this one Spuddley's way. My tip - Spuds.

REBCats vs. cyrilanddayleshow

Cyril is a lot better than the score they posted last week and the REBCats are coming off their best score of the season even after 'enjoying' a poor Sunday along with many others. wycbloods has a good record against the REBCats but appears to have hung on to the likes of McDonald and in particular Langdon a week too long. Some shrewd trading is required to shore up that defence to take advantage of a REBCats outfit that is carrying a struggling Doherty. With trades at a premium the REBCats face a conundrum in the form of Ryan Griffen with Hawk Hallahan providing no bench cover. Best trade wins...REBCats...just. My tip - REBCats.

Captain Who? vs. Cork in the Ocean

The Captain has his groover back in recent weeks and has reignited his season with some improved form in recent weeks. However, when you are chasing the pack a single loss could have you spinning out of contention. The Captain needs to collect a big scalp to really get back in the hunt and the premiership table shows that there is no bigger scalp in Hogg Premier this year than Corky. Cork has the eight gun midfield and the six gun backline which a lot of teams will have trouble stopping. I reckon the Captain's winning run stops here. My tip - Cork in the Ocean.

Richo Richo Man vs. Poon Army

Both of these sides need this win for different reasons but after looking at both lineups its safe to say that the ladder doesn't lie. My mate Hammo has a couple of trendy trades such as Stefan Martin and McGovern but even teams that are battling a bit wouldn't have to play both on the field. A few teams have Martin in but history shows that Stef bursts out of the blocks a bit then hits the wall and spuds it up. This week will be Martin's third game in the Ruck after a long layoff and he will be up against Goldstein of the Roos. This weekend has all the hallmarks of a Stefan shocker. Poon is also one of the few teams still carrying Laidler, not just as bench cover but as a starting defender. Richo has a few holes in his team but his side looks the better of the two and should win. My tip - Richo Richo Man.

Q Before You vs. Underdogs

Q put in a bit of a shocker last week after scoring 2400 the week before which makes him one of the toughest teams in Hogg Premier to predict. Even though his percentage took a hit percentage might not be much of an issue as Underdogs and REBCats have a draw and they are the teams fighting out with Q for spots in the lower part of the eight. Q has already lost to the REBCats (in Premier) and would not want to drop the match against the Underdogs as well. Underdogs were a little down as well as they got caught out by Langdon's concussion and if the Dogs keep the faith with the talented young Pie this could burn Q. Looking at the lineups I think Q has the higher ceiling and many normally reliable players let him down last week. It's Q Before Underdogs for mine. My tip - Q Before You.

The Ginger Ninjas vs. Longwood Lions

This season is looking a lot like last year for the Lions. The Lions had a slowish start but roared ;) home late to almost snaffle a spot in the eight. The Lions have a pretty good team but have been batting well but not making runs. This week they play a Ginger Ninjas outfit who have struggled to score runs all year so the Lions look good things to win their second in a row. The Ninjas are a genuine relegation chance after taking a mid-pricer approach that hasn't paid off. Laidler, Brodie Martin, Jack Grimes, Shuey, McIntosh and Taylor Walker are too many failed mid-pricers and I think Alaska can take advantage. My tip - Longwood Lions.

Buddy Franklin vs. Hondo SCC MATCH OF THE ROUND

This is probably match of the season to date. Both sides look well prepared and both sides will go deep into this year's finals series. Hondo appears to have gone with the more 'traditional' type of midfield with players such as Selwood and Pendlebury joining the regulation Ablett and Beams while Buddy has really thought outside the box with players such as Boomer Harvey and Callum Ward really pumping out the scores. It is difficult to find a weakness in either side at the present and I'm pretty happy I've already played both of these blokes. I reckon both teams will score over 2300 and I'm liking Buddy to end Hondo's run but there won't be much in this. My tip - Buddy Franklin.

Hawkeye vs. MILLER MOSQUITOES

Hawkeye might have won their last ever Premier League match. His team is full of too many hit and miss players, which even include Hanley and Bartel who have had a mostly successful season this year. The forward line has a couple of misfiring players as well and this team doesn't look like it could post 2200 on a regular basis. MILLERS has been fighting out of their weight division for weeks but he will see this clash as a winnable match. If Woggy's mid range players can hit a vein of form Hawkeye could salute though as there are a number of poor performers in the MOSQUITOES forward line. Fresh off his big win against the Darkside, I can't see MILLERS dropping this. My tip - MILLER MOSQUITOES.

Has Been vs. Darksiders SCE

Both sides had a poor week last week as they both share many of the missing and or underperforming players which brought their score down. At full strength both of these teams are genuine contenders but the loser of this match might struggle to make the top four. In this battle of almost mirror image teams I'm looking at the forward line and seeing one too many iffy players in the Has Been outfit, at least in comparison to the Darkside. When I'm tipping Premier League I have a simple rule and that is when in doubt, pick the Darksiders. My tip - Darksiders SCE.

Buddy and I went toe to toe all weekend. He smacked me with Cotchin 168 and Hanley 160 while losing ground with Pavlich and Birchall. I responded with Stefan Martin 133 on Saturday night and Jacobs 163 (while Jaensch failed with 57).

It all came down to me needing 373 out of Murphy, Pendles, Walker and Simpson in the last game and I thought I was a good shot to get up. But thanks to Walker 50 and Murphy 76 I fell 27 short despite scoring 2570.

Where did Cotchin pull the 168 from?? Anyway, great game all the same.

Hondo wrote:Buddy and I went toe to toe all weekend.

Classic game Hondo! I didn't deserve to win that, thought you had me covered easily with coll v Carl to go. Unlucky. But I ashamedly admit that I enjoyed every one of walkers ineffective kicks, and thanks to macaffer for doing a decent job on smurf.

One regret from my team, besides the fact I still have Higgins and tex walker, is that I didn't pick up Jacobs. He almost won it for you!

Such a tough league, darksiders next :(
