West should have won by 30 goals. I think that was a worse effort than the Port match.

LOL, how bad are Central then?

At least you won't win the spoon this year. ;)

I went to my first SANFL game in about 7 years on saturday to watch this game....... I support neither team but the kids wanted to go as they had free tickets through Auskick.
Westies obviously belted the bays but this game from a spectator's point of view was sh*thouse.
The bays were terrible........looked like an amatuer team in the lower grades at best!!!
Has the standard of SANFL dropped off that much in recent years or was this game a bad reflection coz it was so one sided?

* Kids loved the jumpy castle and free giveaways that Westies did.

Not petty, I was just wondering what the rules state. I watched a bit of this debacle on Saturday and counted 14 ( IIRC ) badges/logos on the Westies kit. Seemed a little OTT for mine but must fit within regulations.

A good point. As an interstate member, I have only the " recovery session " to go by, and the standard of football looks like the old SAFA days of Athelstone v's Ingle Farm with Ken Francou in ruck ? The crowds look practically non existent, but it's what the AFL wanted, nothing more than a feeder competition to support their domination on AFL ( formerly known as Australian Rules Football ).

My beloved Bays are an absolute rabble , and the last few years has put the most loyal Glenelg Football Club members to the test. I can't remember in my 40 years of supporting The Bays of us being this bad. I just keep on coughing up my membership fee's and hoping for the best. I am trying to encourage my daughter NOT to follow Glenelg, as she wants to support her Dad's team ( as I have with my father ). Some things are genetic I guess ( bless her ) :goodman:

Missed the game on the weekend, but wow! Must have been a massive turnaround from what I did see the week before. Still see us as a middle of the table side though - reckon this result reflects more on Glenelg's situation than ours. We do need to keep improving, getting our best side on the park while also scalping some of the better sides in the comp. if we can beat off North, Norwood and Centrals for 5th spot and be in good form at the end of the year then we could still finish 2nd to Port (which is all that is on offer this year).

MESSAGE FROM THE SENIOR COACH

After an extremely disappointing effort against West Adelaide on Saturday I wanted to apologise to all Glenelg members, sponsors and supporters for an effort that was simply not good enough.

Although we have put together a very young side, I don't use that as an excuse for our poor display and attack on the ball. Our performance on Saturday was not acceptable.

I really appreciate the support we have had from our supporters to the start of the year and I ask you to be patient and continue the fantastic support by turning up to games and barracking for us in a positive manner. There is certainly nothing better than a big crowd down the Bay, particularly when we are all pulling in the same direction.

In such testing times, it is imperative that all Glenelg people are on the same page so we can lift this proud club back up to where it belongs.

Therefore I ask you, our members, with the club's best interests at heart to unite behind the playing group and coaching staff as we build for the future. As a united group we can provide the environment necessary for building a positive and winning culture.

Certainly, our effort against the Bloods was not up to standard but I can assure you we are all working extremely hard as a club to rise up the ladder. To make this happen we will continue to work even harder, and we need you - the members and supporters - to continue with positive and encouraging support.

After some challenging seasons it is our aim to build a culture of success, but first the foundations have to be set and laid. This will ensure the club is competitive for the next decade and beyond.

Currently, we have a very young list; our average age is just 21 years and 4 months with a list average of 17.6 league games per player.

In 2014, we have had 17 pull on the Glenelg league Guernsey for the first time in Sam Lonergan, Aaron Joseph, Mitch Thorp, Clint Alleway, Nathan Stark, Patty McCarthy, Josh Scott, Tom Muir, Josh Woodall, Josh Miller, Billy Stretch, Alex Neale-Bullen, Cory Gregson, Michael Galley, Scott Spriggs, Waylon Johncock and James Jones. We have also selected players with 10 or less games of experience at SANFL level such as Darcy Bailey, Billy Hayes, Dylan Gamble and Wade Hancock. We believe we have found players who will have a long career at this great club.

There will no doubt be highs and lows over the journey but I ask for your continued support and encourage all the Glenelg faithful to get out and support us against North Adelaide at Gliderol Stadium on the Queen's Birthday, Monday June 9.

We need those who love the club to join us for the ride, as bumpy as it may be, as we keep working harder as a united group to lift the Bays back to where we belong - the top of the ladder.

Thanks,

Nick Stevens.

Hate it when coaches say - I'm not using this as an excuse , but.....here is three paragraphs of that excuse. Not sure you can get away with defining Thorp, Joseph, Lonergan, Alleway as rookies either. Obviously there is some merit in the "we are young" line, however I am not sure how different other clubs age and average games profiles would be, particularly if you included AFL and other senior state league games in the calculation.

It's something I would like to calculate, if I could get all birthdates to do it. I'd like to compare them with past years too, seeing as it at least appears the players on each list are getting younger.

I thought about just using the ages in the Budget, but I would like to be even more precise and use birthdates. I've got about 57% of everyone who debuted from 1990 onwards so far.
