Actually, I am at least two days out. The 'League Football in Australia' book Leaping Lindner sent me says:

The first game played in South Australia was in the North Parklands on April 28, 1860, between two scratch sides from the newly formed Adelaide Club.

might have been in the north parklands but my question is at the adelaide oval and i got the Q/A from the adelaide oval history section website :D
