LOL, so the ball is 'thrown' into the pitch every ball bowled. If the batsman drives the ball then there's a chance the ball will hit the pitch again.

90 overs a day is a min 540 hits on the pitch, then add the times the batsman hits it into the pitch.

So we are supposed to believe that a few odd throws from the outfield that bounce to the keeper will dramatically alter the ball, considering the fact that the fieldsmen need to be skilled enough to bounce the ball on the same side each time to get a consistent roughing up of the ball?

Yet ,Smith and Clarke have bowled 13 overs between them

Watson 3 overs
Harris 12 overs
Smith 9 overs
If my maths is right Smith now has taken 10/501 in Test Cricket

Bowling figures at Lunch
Johnson/Pattinson/Harris 5/82 [48]
Others 0/35 [32]

The ball would hit the seam a whole bunch of that time when bowled.
