I think I have read somewhere in the SAAFL history that the Jubilee oval was used by University before their current ground was built. The Jubilee was behind the Bonython-Jubilee building at UniSA and now has the engineering department of Adelaide Uni built on it

Correct heater, here is an extract from the SAAFL website:

"It was decided to use just three grounds for the first year of competition in 1911 - Jubilee Oval, Price Oval and University Oval. The Amateur League was fortunate in that two of these grounds were 'brand new'. The 'old' one was Jubilee Oval situated on the south-western corner of Frome Road and Victoria Drive, about a hundred metres south of the Adelaide Zoo. The Amateur League used it again in 1912, but only infrequently thereafter, until Teachers Training College used it as a home ground from 1927 until 1935 when the Mackinnon Parade ground became available. The Jubilee Oval was built over by the University in 1946 and there are now five University buildings where it once stood."

Thanks HBT, I think i got the Uni using it for games against Melb uni for their annual match from 1906 to 1911 when the South Australian FA wouldn't admit them into the league they then went and formed the SAAFL

Actually, I am at least two days out. The 'League Football in Australia' book Leaping Lindner sent me says:

The first game played in South Australia was in the North Parklands on April 28, 1860, between two scratch sides from the newly formed Adelaide Club.
