Rolling Stones to Shield final in three easy steps

On the day South Australia leapt to the top of the Sheffield Shield table with an outright victory over Victoria at the MCG, the SACA chief executive Keith Bradshaw revealed the ground can still accommodate the final despite hosting both the Rolling Stones and an AFL fixture only days before.
The performance of the ageing English rock band - among whom their frontman Mick Jagger is a noted cricket follower - has been billed as a celebration of the new AFL-friendly ground, but Bradshaw said he wanted to prove the game had not been entirely shunted from the front rank itself.
"We can still play the Shield final. I've had chats with Cricket Australia about that," he said. "The Stones will come in, play their concert, we bump out the stage, we bump out all the infrastructure for them, then we play the first Showdown [between Adelaide and Port Adelaide].
"We can then bump out one of the football trays, bring in a pitch, take down the goalposts, play a game of cricket, then get it in and play footy the next weekend. It's a logistical challenge I would love to have and I'm feeling quite positive about the way the Redbacks are performing at the moment … I'm really optimistic that will happen."

50 000 people strolling on the wicket might liven it up enough to get a result!

Imagine that wicket ends up doing all sorts for the only game of the season where we want a road prepared.

It's a disgrace. SACA should have lobbied hard at this. Clearly the SMA and State Government have no sense of what Adelaide Oval is all about. That is the home to cricket and football in South Australia. If the Shield Final was dismissed so easily, why not have the Crows/Power play on Round 1. Di&*#eads.

I agree, BUT

Im sure the SMA (and therefore SACA indirectly) get a big cut of the revenue for booking the 'Stones at Adelaide Oval.

What would be the financial benefit to hold the Shield final there? could even be a net negative, though maybe not for the final.

Just throwing it out there but its highly likely they played the "we'll cross that bridge when we come to it" card, and booked the stones anyway

Spot on, SMA is a business not a sports administration ... the SACA and the SANFL, financed by the State Government, have created a monster.

Welcome to the new world.

Oh, and if the Redbacks host the final, the Glenelg Football Club says hello.

Disgrace, another promise made to the "yes" voters broken....SACA were fully aware of the Stones concert clashing and still gave the green light, staggering

Well the yes voters handed over control to the SMA so it is their prerogative now. Don't think you have any right to host the final

I think we have to look at the big picture hear. There was an opportunity to have an international act open the new adelaide oval . It was the only possible time it could be done before AFL season. THE SHIELD FINALISTS aren't even decided yet, so the descion had to be made 50000+ people compared to a possible 5000_10000MAX its a no brainer. The return in dollars is undeniable The Adelaide oval is now a multipurpose venue & it has to be utilised to its max at every opportunity. Unfortuately this has just been bad timing for the redbacks. At the end of the day if they win the shield then no one will care where they played
I think this type of thing should be a rareity as far as double bookings
