I blame the VFL for starting the whole thing back around 1990, then the SANFL for buckling under.
The Crows, and the Power, are results/victims of that schemozzle and to some extent can't help following the example set by those parents.

It appears the decision was made at a lower administrative level in the SANFL and then retracted by more senior people when the protests brought it to their attention. The Crows claim the idea was "encouraged" by the SANFL. The SANFL says the Crows request was simply approved, not "encouraged", by the person who handled the request. (Sloppy management by SANFL either way.)
Leigh Whicker when the deal was announced wrote:“The SANFL is delighted that the Adelaide Football Club will honour its heritage in round two of the AFL Premiership Season,”
John Olsen, June 2012 wrote:"Reserves teams in the SANFL for the two AFL clubs is not negotiable.
We will not compromise the SANFL competition (with AFL reserves teams)."

So Olsen is saying that Whicker is at a "lower administration level" and his "delight" does not indicate any encouragement?![]()

Interesting that all references to that quote are now deleted...(I had to use google cache to find it)

“The SANFL is delighted that the Adelaide Football Club will honour its heritage in round two of the AFL Premiership Season,” Whicker said. “The guernsey reflects the many hard working and passionate people, as well as all the SANFL clubs, that have built the Crows into such a significant part of the South Australian football landscape.
