The Jesuits are the most "conservative" of all Catholics to the point, they have been called the Army of Jesus instead of the Society of Jesus.
You are correct that they dominate our judiciary and legal system.
But, there are parts of their history and some traits that they shouldn't be proud of, and the ends justify the means is one of them.
Anyway, back on thread.
Bernardi asked "what's next?" It was the press and hysterical minority that linked the two. He never said one leads to the other. He merely asked where do we stop? :D

Jim, conservative in some ways but very progressive in a number of ways, importantly including social justice issues.
I think you will find that Pope Francis (a Jesuit) will be the most progressive Pope in history.
As for Cory Bernardi, will leave it to some of his colleagues:

'Mr Swan and Senator Milne were joining a chorus of responses to Senator Bernardi's overnight remarks which warned that the same-sex marriage campaign would result in campaigns to accept bestiality and polygamy.

Debate on private bills legalising same-sex marriage continues in both houses of parliament today.

Coalition frontbencher Malcolm Turnbull described Liberal Senator Cory Bernardi's as hysterical, alarmist and offensive.

Mr Turnbull, a former opposition leader, said the senator's comments were "the worst sort of slippery slope argument".

"It's hysterical, it's alarmist, it's offensive and it does not represent the mainstream view of Australian people, let alone the Liberal party," he told Sky News.

"I totally dissociate myself from those remarks."

They were just worried about the media fall out
I read his actual comments and they did not link the two.
If we allow this - what are you going to ask us to do next?
The media love misquoting him because they have portrayed him in a certain way (mind you not incorrectly sometimes)
His lunch interview printed in the Advertiser on 27.7.13 was the real Cory Bernardi - Here you go:

Yes, a little bit more balanced but still some very worrying things said in his interview. To say that some cultures are superior to others, like he does, sort of reminds me of a certain person in Germany in the late 1930's.

A common view by many even today and not unique to Hitler. Go to North Korea for example.

Perhaps, but a dangerous view all the same. Not too dissimilar to the view of some Norwood supporters at the moment admittedly *winks*

Never said it was not true. Heck, I have 700 students at school letting me know every day how true it is. They see me as a heathen, a nonbeliever! ;)

Agreed poor form from Bandt but as if that Ltd News 'article' (more like opinion piece) wasn't trying it's hardest to beat it up.

But for someone who is usually pretty measured in his statements that wasn't Bandt's finest moment.

Abbott is very concerned about the bushfires. He had his photo taken with some firefighters. Sure the NSW liberal government have cut back resources to the CFS and Abbott's government has made it harder for victims to get compensation. But he had a photo taken !!!!!

stupid, well mostly what abbott did . The PM of Australia going out to fight fires. Yes, its a good thing but he put himself and his security at risk. Standing around taking pictures and posing for them is not the best when the state is on fire.

He is a member of the volunteer fire fighting organisation isn't he?

How many other Heads of government would put his balls on the line to help others?

I don't know as I don't live and breathe politics like others out there.

It is still the PM going out and fighting fires. More of a publicity stunt than doing good of you ask me ( see BD2, I can agree to when abbott does the wrong things sometimes) ;)

Well, if Tony dies fighting the fires he gets remembered as a hero, and we, presumably, get Malcolm Turnbull as PM. ;)

I dislike tony abbott as much as the next sane man, but i have to say the whole firefighting thing sounds like a beatup. he was a volunteer for 10 years and deputy station captain before he became opposition leader and had to give it up. so i have to say good on him for getting back out there and helping out. of course you can be cynical but it wasnt publicised by the department until photos were taken by someone on their phone, which makes me think it was less about a publicity stunt and more about helping out his former mates.

after paying abbott a compliment i feel dirty now

screw you abbott, you climate change denying dialup internet loving homophobe

thats better :D
