You will need more than 10 teams to make 2 divisions...Crikey! That's only 5 teams per division - so 1 bye every 5 weeks, Mickey Mouse stuff. If you get 16 teams then fair enough.

Agree that more then 10 teams are needed. I would only think about 2 divs with 12 team min but that would be by a vote from the teams. That is also our limit for number of teams at St Marys. We can have 13 if enough teams entered with one team having a bye and a 12 week season playing each other once. The only way to go over that would be 2 - 7 team div's with a bye from each a week and a 12 week season this still allows for 6 games or start a second comp on another night. Unfortunately there is no way to set a third field up to allow 16 teams on one night without shortening games (which I will not do).

I have not yet seen if any nomination forms have been sent in but around 10 teams will be in this season.

I'm having a meeting with some players next Wednesday, I'll be definitely entering the Na Fianna 2nds in 7 a side & possibly bringing a new team in if we get enough interest.

Thank God the dreaded 9.15pm Friday Night game has been switched to sunday for the upcoming season.

Looking at the early forecast for sunday and a hot 32 degree day to kick off the year will test a few players out.

A first round clash with Flinders couldnt have been a better way to start the season and expecting a very physical clash as per usual.

I have seen three but believe there are more which have been sent to the secretary. I am putting a cut off date of the 21st onto nominations so I can get the fixture arranged by the 23rd to giver teams a weeks notice of round one and the structure of the league for the season. It was decided at the committee meeting, That if 10 or more teams enter the Comp A vote on 2 divisions will be given to the teams each team will get one vote. IF two divs goes ahead the positions last year will determine the division of the team. I am counting on between 8-10 but possibly 11 after a few more clubs have shown interest in a second team and another non state team entering.

The SA Minor team plan to put a team in. We have our presentation night this Friday in the club rooms and a coach will be appointed then and the nomination will occur.

No Problem Will keep a spot free as it puts us at around 10-11 teams. The comp is looking good this season.

More news on the 7s from the committee meeting is I will not be as involved in running the comp this season this is due to an issue with getting to st Marys in time to open the ground before 6:30. I will be able to do it some weeks but most weeks are out for me. We have discussed options but will need volunteers to help run the comp which will include the bar (which My wife can not do this year due to work), opening and closing, set ups will be first team and pack ups will be last team as always.

I will be doing the draw and Steve Francis will be organising refs, I will organise round one for the teams by the 22nd of October. I will be giving each team one vote on the divisions issue as there are those for and against which is the only fair way to do it. clubs with two teams (if any) will only get one vote. Divisions will go by ladder positions from last season I will contact teams and the result be known by Wednesday the 23rd of October.

It is a shame that even when we can get a rep team together, it's not the strongest team possible (for various reasons; financial, work, etc)(referring to the Men's this year, not disrespecting the Womens or U18's...).

What do you think is the answer? Government funding? Better organization from each Association? I assume that lack of finance was the main reason we could not get enough people interested this year. I know I could not afford to travel interstate at this point in time.

Has always been difficult to get the best team to go away when it is such an expensive process. As the eastern sea boards increased the amount of ring ins off the boat, it's made being competitive a more difficult process for states such as Qld, Victoria, Auckland & Wellington.
This championship was a debacle as a result of states not wanting to go just to make up numbers. NSW's got bitten by there own doing. If SA had put such a debacle of a championships on, we would never be able to host again...
I've been distracted, there's only so much money in sport & it's difficult to get a heap of it for the state teams.
So the individual is looking at a week & a bit costing around $2000+ when you just go on a footy trip & blow $1000.

I must say St Marys was looking good on Friday night, freshly mowed lawns, non death trap looking goals, and a beautifully marked pitch. Well played to those in the working bee that got it setup last week! Also well played to SBS who have got the rights to the A-League on Friday nights giving the team rostered on to the bar on Fridays something else to watch!

The Taints looking forward to our first run this Friday night against Flinders.
