I would love to see Adelaide and geelong footballers get a salary cap decrease in line with how much cheaper it is to buy/rent in those places.

For $200k per year minimum, where do I sign?
For someone like Tippett, Scully, Davis and the other recruits on $500k per year plus the COLA just means they can get a house with 3 toilets instead of 2

My point exactly. Poor blokes have to survive on $3846 a week, plus any endorsements...and THEN, they have to play football for a job. Poor little buggers.

This is getting better by the post.

Do they have a national draft in soccer and cricket?

Oh, and well done Jim. Was wondering which nuffy would mention Tippett.

Why should those poor little buggers playing for Sydney or GWS be disadvantaged compared to the other footballers in the league. You know, the ones in Adelaide, Geelong, North Melbourne who can buy/rent for a third of the cost?

No different from guys getting drafted into teams like Geelong and Hawthorn where the state of their salary cap means they will earn less than they might at teams with more room to move.

If the difference meant they would struggle to pay the bills, I might've agreed with you. But they will be fine.

And if the GWS players needed to live close to their football club, they will be paying **** all rent/mortgage coz Western Sydney is a shithole.

Flattery will get you everywhere, big boy. ;)

The fact that last years premier could recruit someone as highly paid as Tippett with the COLA clearly having an impact upon Sydney's ability to obtain someone of such ilk, well I figured even you would see that was relevant to the discussion.

If you knew what you were talking about, you would know the extra payments are spread over the entire list. If you knew what you were talking about, you would know Sydney cleared a shit load of salary cap space to get Tippett.

The way it should work (if it MUST happen) is the only players that receive the COLA are the ones who's total contract value falls below a certain amount. That way they cant use it as a recruiting tool, and also helps only the players that may need the extra money to live comfortably (in relation to other AFL players living conditions Australia wide).

I doubt it works like this, and I reckon if it did, the extra amount allowed to Sydney would be much less because it would be spread across only 10-15 players, instead of the whole list.

I wouldn't have a problem with that, and I wouldn't have a problem with working out a system where the cost of living allowance is worked out for every team. So start with I'm guessing Port and Geelong as a base and work from there. It might upset people when the numbers are crunched, and Sydney end up with more dollars though. The allowance has been 15% for some time now, so being fair, it probably should be higher.

Happy to take advantage of playing GWS twice a year, while they are building their team. Not sure it will be an advantage in 2 years time though.

We all know it is a corrupt draw. Playing GWS twice does nothing but give the swans 2 free wins while GWS build their club.

But on the same argument, Geelong get to play Hawthorn twice don't they? ;)
