Ha ha. That mouthy prick is me, but the player I'm referring to is a former captain of ours.
The year gaza won the div 2 flag in 2000, and the div 1 flag in 2003, he won the club b&f, but didn't get a vote either year from the umps. He was always pretty good with not abusing umpires.

You know what I've noticed over the years - a player who stands up in the last quarter is more likely to poll votes regardless if he has done anything the 3/4 before hand.. fresh in the umpires minds! Also the friendly player who is happy to chat to the umpire, and usually a midfielder.

In the lower grades i.e. C grade I've seen numerous umpires influenced by other players opinions eg #4 is having a great game, this bloke is BOG etc.

But unlike Rulebook Lockleys Dario is the 1st to offer you a beer after the game so all is forgiven :)
Can you bring a man to his feet when defeat is on repeat?

I tend to agree with that. A couple of years ago I wasn't feeling the best so spent majority of the first 3 quarters on the bench. Came on to play the last quarter, kicked 3 and set up a couple - 3 votes!

We've done it since forever with the umpires voting, But I'd still like to see the coaches vote 3,2,1 for the oppositions best players each week. Who they thought hurt them the most on the field. Coaches MVP. Maybe something the footy budget or radio show could do?

Dario umpires there "c" grade, but is also a better umpire than there "b" umpire - blonde hair.
