The A's have done better than expected since coming up to Divvy 2 and our depth has been good this season. His consistency has paid off and he has played 3 of his last 4 in the A's.

not sure why we even bother with a medal count in the lower grades, the umpires in divisions4,5,6 etc dont have a clue, half of them dont know the rules so not sure how they can judge best afield! complete idiots!

Im not suprised no-one replied to this post  get rid of the voting and the umpires then i assume. Im certain they do their best in most cases.

I play in lower division footy and i admit at times the umpiring is vexing to say the very least but without them there is no game and even at the highest level the umpire votes are never certain.

Although BL is a bit over the top I have to admit that club umpires tend to have favourites and some of their best player selections are odd to say the least. Having said that the same discussions/views are held at the highest levels of the game, so to just blame SAAFL umpires is wrong.

I note you didn't criticize Div 3 results. It wouldn't have anything to do with Jolly winning the medal. Having said that, he was a most worthy winner.

Probably more to do with him only experiencing div 4, 5 & 6 umpires.

should have an umpires medal, the 2 coaches on the day give em a rating after each game, if anyone averages more than 4 points out of 10 a game, the ump gets a medal!!

ive played in higher grades and the umpiring is obviously better the higher it is, thats why i said div 4 onwards, blokes get votes year in year out because they are 'favourites' to umpires, its a joke, its like theyve blacked out during the game and gone oh we'll just give him the votes, no point doing it! get these umpires up to date with the rules before letting judge blokes

I wouldn't say the umpiring in div 4 is much better than Div 5....Anyway who cares least they are out there doing a job. With out them we wouldnt have a game....alot of guys that play lower grades have retired from the elite football ex div1 or so..guys like you got nothing to do but whinge and alot of guys that play in the lower clubs are the one that keep there club going..with out them there club prob fold and guys who arent superstars wouldnt have a club to play for..

A friend of mines old man umpired Div 1 footy, was good enough to get a Div 1 GF and he even told me that on their day if they were struggling as to who to give the last vote to he would go with the winning captain, even the higher grades can guess at times. There may be an odd year where someone wins one that we all raise eyebrows on but for the most part the player who wins is worthy in all grades IMO.

I think all you have to do is take a look at th votes given in the games and see how it compares to how their club judged that players performance on the day.
Think you will find 90% of the time the umpires get it wrong. Not saying the umpires are crap, but the votes they normally give are.
I have seen soooo many disgraceful votes handed out over the years.

A player of ours that won 3 b & f's at our club during our glory days, did not poll a vote from the umps in any of those 3 years.
So many other times you see players that have bad games that stand out to the umps for reasons such as a bad hair cut.
Although my crap hair cut still isn't enough to get me votes

Not the umpires fault, as they can't be expected to remember who played well and who didn't.

Yes, but if said B&F was a mouthy little prick, he was never going to poll a vote.

Disclaimer: I have no idea who you're actually talking about BOP - or whether he was mouthy or not 8)
