What happened to the status quo undertaking? Koch so vocal about the Magpies until last couple of weeks.

So the true die hard Magpie supporters have literally days to farewell their side? What a f*** disgrace.
Only a couple of days to the last home game and still no official word.

Hang on, the whole article contradicts itself. On the one hand, it is written that the whole club will be restructured next year. But also quotes Keith Thomas stating that if the junior structure isn't maintained, the status quo will remain.

And never forget, it is the $ANFL forcing this restructure on the Port Adelaide Football Club. NOT the other way around!

This debacle should never of happened.
Once again the piss weak commission is to blame.
Port decided they were too good for the SANFL and wanted to join the big boys which is fair enough but the SANFL should of had the balls to kill off the Magpies there and then.

Is there a way for the SANFL board to be voted out ASAP?

How do the other clubs feel about the league pretty much forcing Port Maggies out of the league they helped build over the years?

I dont even follow SANFL very closely, but this has given me the shits.

Clubs didnt want AFL reserves in the SANFL, and Port Power were unlikely to put one in next year, so the board says "you guys can either have a ressies side, or nothing at all". How is that in the interests of the other clubs?

There was no need for a Commission before SANFL owned AFL licences, presumably there'd be no need once they're sold.

Say what you want, but this has been on the Radar for some time, I'm not a Port Fan, but when Ken McGregor was appointed he mentioned about how he was looking forward to working with Ken Hinkley and Alan Richardson, and he even said that they wanted to work with him. Why??

I remember saying back then in November last year that the PAFC were gearing up to make the Magpies a reserves side and that they would get the jump on the crows, now obviously the crows have forced Port's Hand by getting the reserves first, but Port was always going to have a reserves side, Which, May have been tabled to Ken McGregor on his appointment.

Port will unfortunately have to hand over it's rich recruitment zones and forfeit it's junior development sides which they won't like, but it's done now.

The Sanfl is now a different landscape, but it changed when Woodville and Centrals came in, then the Woodville/West Torrens merger, then obviously the crows and then the Power, it has evolved over time, It's not ideal but it is what it is!!
Sorry people I only deal in facts!

Your point has a couple of flaws.

Port aren't instigating this, the SANFL are.

Port did put a proposal forward to have a reserves team. But when met with the conditions they would forfeit their zones, juniors, etc, they decided against it.

This is a case of the SANFL commission saying its either an AFL reserves side, or its nothing, by not allowing the Port Magpies to renew their SANFL license.

The entry of 2 AFL reserves sides is a totally unprecedented change to the nature of the SANFL. Central, Woodville, and The Eagles (WWT) were all striving to win premierships and didn't "borrow" players from other clubs on a rotational basis.

From 2014 SANFL = joke.

If even Russell Ebert seems to be angry— and his anger is by no means confined to the SANFL or SA Football Commission— then it might be time for any Port supporter who's unsure about what's happening with the Magpies to seek some urgent answers from their club, rather than just adopting a kneejerk, 'well, if anything was happening, it would be all the SANFL's fault anyway' approach.

This is the differences between the AFC reserves deal and that which the commission want to offer PAFC. Vote is tomorrow morning at 8am. Have a moment of silence if you like.

1. PAFC plays in reserves (as Academy team) and Junior competitions
2. PAFC to have a $20k + $400 per match salary cap for top up players
3. No qualification for SANFL finals to exist if AFL side still playing (that’s not different, just bullshit)
4. PAFC coaches able to coach at any level in Magpies structure
5. PAFC will retain Alberton as a venue (so SANFL clubs don’t get match day revenue)
6. PAFC forego $400k of distribution (not necessarily for distribution to other SANFL clubs, most likely tipped into the commission trough)
7. PAFC to continue receiving their fees if players are drafted
8. PAFC to continue to sell SANFL club memberships
9. 1-35 Magpies players to cost half of standard transfer fees should they go to another SANFL club
10. 36-50 Magpies players to cost $2,500 should they go to another SANFL club
11. Academy players to transfer to other SANFL clubs for $0 fee

There is a provision in 2015 for the Academy side to be withdrawn; however it's far more likely that AFC would push for the same rather than PAFC having them removed.

Enjoy the last few weeks of SANFL footy (unless you want to get on to your club board members tonight and have a say).

That's a good deal.

Taking in to account that Port Magpies are going to be the Power Reserves regardless, that is what Port Adelaide want.

Port still keep their juniors and their league side is compromised so as not to be too strong with all AFL players and the best of the rest.

Common sense seems to have been made.

If this is true, well done all.
