Heard you were lucky not to lose with a score of 0.0 there PG... care to share what happened?? Surely a coach that holds his standards extremely high wouldn't have made this error??

Its only a free kick and 25m penalty. They don't wipe the scores

Umpires told all the players our score was wiped and then threw the ball up. Fair to say our players were gutted and gave up from that point. We had all the momentum and had got back to within 5 points. Probably why the Pultney players were very excited when it happened. FWIW, the call came from the bench and not the captain too, but hey who are we to argue with an SAAFL umpire. Well done Pultney and good luck this week.

I knew I wouldn't be so lucky as to have this go under the radar

Unfortunately approximately 7 minutes into the final quarter the Pulteney bench called for a player count and we had 19 on the field, seems someone didnt read the board at 3/4 time!
Having a very inexperienced side with a lot of players new to football, generally i am very vigilant wth the bench to ensure it's right, but i had a lapse and was too focussed on the game and well the rest is history.. it's not easy maintaining and rotating a 7 man bench.

The way the umpire dealt with the situation was very poor though, and not one part of it was correct to the rules and regulations, and needless to say i'm FILTHY that he took it upon himself to tell the entire team the score was wiped, even though he doesn't hold that power!

Having said that, we had 19 on the field, we were in the wrong I cant deny nor dispute that, it was an accident and definately not a deliberate ploy or attempt to cheat, just extremely disappointed in the way the game panned out, and i felt we had all the momentum at that point and believe we may have run over the top of them but yeah very deflating for the boys and were never going to get up again after the umpire ill-informed them.

On the actual game itself, we didn't play well enough in the 1st quarter, and Pulteney used the breeze very well, their major players Whinnen, May, Barmby were very good all day and tore us apart, and they shut down a couple of our influential players at critical times. They took a 3 goal lead into QTR time and it was a real arm wrestle from that point, margin didn't vary much until the last when we began to win the ball out of the middle and really pushed hard.

AFL coaches have been fired for less. Would expect you to hand in your resignation as of COB today... ;)

That's fair.. no need to hand in resignation though - can't resign from a job you no longer hold

Although a disappointing conclusion to our season, we as a club can't be disappointed in our season - to field 3x sides for the entire season can be a difficult feat on it's own, but plenty of positives.

To have players begin in the C grade and force their way up to the B grade and even the A grade is reward enough as a coach.

We regularly had 20+ twice a week to train for C grade alone

After losing by 139 points in Rd 1, we managed to win 9 games - which is as more games than any season since 2007.

Previous seasons:

2008: 1 win
2009: 1 win
2010: 7 wins (C6)
2011 - 0 wins
2012 - 4 wins

Not once did we have players double up from B grade, and finished the season with almost every C grade player fully financial.

We beat 2nd place Lockleys, coughed up a 5 goal lead to lose by a point to 3rd place TOS, beat 4th place Pulteney by 10 goals earlier in the season and I thought we were very competitive against Payneham recording 2 of the 3 highest scores kicked against them and inaccurate kicking prevented a better result.

C Grade is about providing an avenue and opportunity for players to have a game on a weekend, develop their skills, include them and make them feel apart of the club and to bridge the gap to the B grade - I would say we accomplished that and had a succesfull season, and the future looks bright for 2014.

Not bad at all. Amazing what you can accomplish when you play with 19.

What happens in a game if you play an unregistered player?
