When this proposal was put forward by the AFC and the SANFL it seemed so horrible that there was no way clubs would agree to it. Sadly I was wrong

I feel we are now standing at the top of a slippery dip and about to wave goodbye to the SANFL as we and generations before us have known.
This is a very sad day.

I believe worse is to come....imagine the feeling when South, one of 2 inaugural clubs in the sanfl and now bereft of a premiership for 50 years (and all the misery associated with that), is defeated by the Crows reserves in the AFLSA (because thats what it will be called in a few years) ...Grand final. A crows reserves team that has a salary cap 250 times the one that we operate on.... We feel sad now but I assure you what we feel now will be nothing compared to that!

Like others I vented my spleen to the club Ceo and a couple of board members a few weeks ago..re this issue. I said that if it went ahead I was gone....

However....!!
at the moment I have never ,ever felt more proud of the South Adelaide Football Club than I do now. To be one of the 2 clubs to vote against the proposal, under what I expect was a lot of pressure..for the club to stand on its dig and vote with its conscience on an issue and not cave in to the whims of an AFL mega club is very commendable. I congratulate the board and our League director Peter Alexander on the way they have handled this matter on the clubs behalf.

Was once a Crows supporter. Now I despise them. Put them alongside Port and Collingwood.

The crows and AFL are dead to me..... I will refuse an offer of anything to do with that club and 'brand' of football. 6 SANFL club directors have sold out for corporate greed

Since the preliminary final of last year I have lost all respect for the AFC.

Personally, I think talk of memberships and crowds dropping by so much are being overstated. There might be a small drop, but for every person who hates this and refuses to go to games anymore there will be 99 who don't give a shit.

Once the emotion gets vented you're probably right.

Having said that, the selling point of having big crowds at Crows reserves games is laughable. How many Melbourne based AFL supporters turn up to watch their ressies in the VFL? Crowds are non existant.

For me, and ive said this all along, I think the increase will come for those playing the Crows. I think 4000 is probably achievable. I still believe its different here and cant be compared to the VFA/L. Theres plenty of 'Adelaide and Sturt' 'Adelaide and North' 'Adelaide and Norwood' supporters. Is it the same in Victoria? I don't think it is. I think the increase will come from those 'Adelaide and Sturt' latent supporters who might go to maybe 1 or 2 SANFL games a year against say a Port or a Norwood....now they might go to 4 games a year and watch their two clubs play against each other as well.

And i'd also say that for all those who have said they will turn their back on their club and SANFL, maybe 10% might carry through with that threat. For 16 games of the year, there isn't going to be any difference.

Macca, the ones who don't give a shit are the ones who pissed off to the Crows/Power years ago.

Those who remained have a little more spine than you give them credit for.

You know me. You reckon I'm bullshitting when I say I will never - NEVER - go to a Crows game in the SANFL?

I believe you 100% and I completely agree with that stance.

I cant understand people willing to give up their club completely. Just totally walk away. That I don't understand. And at least there will still be a club to support. Mine probably wont exist beyond next year.

10% at $150 dollars a membership (if a club has 1500 members thats 150 members gone there is $22500 gone there)

plus any money spent on game days (no less than $10 a game over 11 home games is $16 500)
plus any family members/mates who may come casually with them
plus any merchandise they would normally buy (spend $10 each a year on merch theres another $1500)
plus lose any revenue they spend from the clubrooms throughout the year dining etc etc
plus some of these people will no doubt be player sponsors etc etc

There almost goes the 50K a year! A you have lost patronage and those figures are being very kind, doubt to many people spend less than $10 at a day out of footy.
