Bahaha!!! I've got heaps of mature aged students in my tutes this year. I've noticed, that WITHOUT FAIL, every tute, at least ONE mature aged student will ask, 'Do we need to use Harvard referencing?'
Continuous assessment and constant papers to submit in tertiary education that I am told is the pattern now would shit me.
I would expect the constant paper work would undermine any potential enjoyment in learning, and eat time otherwise available for thinking about (and more widely about) your subject and your objectives.
The system I went through in made sense to me...
You went to the minimum required number of formal lectures, tutorials, and practicals, took part to various extents, went to the bars and pool rooms as much as you liked, and as long as you could pass the end of year exams it didn't matter a damn what you did through the year.
Viva independence and individuality!
