You go to sleep for 20 minutes and the opposition bangs on 4 or 5 goals and it's game over. MP have been competitive for most games but have that drop off factor, but they have beaten 2 teams in the 5. Just an opinion on what I have seen. :)

Much alike Ingle Farm and Houghton last season who have had a strong year in Div 7 this season but were competitive last year in 6 in many games.

What's the solution then? Expand div 6 and merge 7 & 8?

Is there a problem? There is supposed to be a gap in quality between divisions

Looking at Mitchell Parks results, does this:

a) Indicate a more competitive div 6 competition than recent seasons
b) Indicate the drastic gap between div 6 and 7.

Also the way Rosewater are travelling isn't too dissimilar to Woody South last season, so is the gap between 5 and 6 also growing??

Are some clubs destined to remain in these bottom 2 divisions??

IMO (and that only)

This is the best standard of div 6 I've ever seen
The standard between div 6 and 7 is huge
The standard between div 6 and 5 is more fitness based than skill level

And the crows suck

/agrees with carey on all 4 points :D

Agree with carey on all 4 as well! This is quite easily the best standard of D6 I have seen.

Our side this year in D6 is a better side, talent wise, than we had last year in D7 to put it in perspective. Last year we went nigh on undefeated, this year struggling to avoid relegation.

I also think this years D7 is probably one of the better ones I have seen as well. Good to see such strong lower divisions!

The problem appears to be not the gap in quality between the divisions if i am correct in summising peoples thoughts, but more so the gap between the top end of 7 and the rest i guess.

Problem with this is clubs are likely to yo-yo up and down whilst the poor sides in 7 remain a mile behind..

Before we throw out the baby with the bathwater, let's do a "chicken" test re dumping the C grades for a couple of seasons.........Henley Beach would be a good test case..... But we get to keep the D Grades....right Marbles.....

nah champ, not dump c-grades

div 7 would only have agrade sides with 9 teams & a bye, as would div 2 to div 6

expand the div 8 into a C-Grade/D-Grade super league, maybe requiring a div 9 due to a surplus of clubs that have C-Grades & D-Grades

So what you are saying morell is that the talent is stronger but they are not playing as a team. If they were then they would be pushing for a finals berth. As I said previously you have beaten 2 teams in the 5. :)

Why not just expand the C divisions and have a promotion/relegation system?

Or move the C divisions into a Div 9?

There are some stand alone C grade teams that are very good and probably capable of being competitive - and better than some of the sides in 7, 7R, 8 & 8R

If MP can hold on to their Div6 spot and Ingle Farm, Angle Vale or Houghton fight out Div 7 then problem solvered. All teams 1-6 will be A grades. Div's 7 and 8 then become a mix of C grades. That is the likely scenario I would think. :)

There is an interest from within clubs to have 9 teams and a couple of byes for each division. It's a long season for players, but particularly for volunteers, and having those extra weekends off keeps everyone motivated.

If a bye comes into play then I think the C grade divisions must follow suit.. but yes I think a bye would be a good idea.

Like the idea Q. If they initialise this and have only the GF winner go up and 2 relegated sides go down then you would see the best Grand Finals you will ever see!!

Premierships not a big enough incentive? I'd be amazed if any player got more of a thrill out of promotion than winning a flag.

Agreed.. but double incentive knowing that if you lost the big one you would then also have to endure another season in the lower grade! I agree with LK would make for some cracking GF's!

Obviously premierships matter most but how many teams celebrate their arses off after winning a 2nd semi or a prelim?

Only 1 team going up would be the ultimate kick in the guts to the GF loser was more so my point ..

There are 64 agrade sides in the 7 divisions

Each div could hav 9 sides except div 1, I guess

BUT if brighton or marion want to come in as Axeman states, the numbering gets messy

SO the current 70 teams in 7 divsions could become 72 with brighton/marion and the there could be 8 divisions of 9 teams as a result

BUT this way the cgrades would have to remain playing agrade sides in the lowest division, which to me is not good
