Similarly, Andrew Bradley is the only player from Glenelg's dominant U18/U19 premiership teams from 2008-2010 to become a consistent League player for Glenelg (out of 51 premiership players).
John Olsen, June 2012 wrote:"Reserves teams in the SANFL for the two AFL clubs is not negotiable.
We will not compromise the SANFL competition (with AFL reserves teams)."

North had a Wayne Carey, Rick Macgowan and Gilbert McAdam play in a Under 17s premiership side together. They were crap players too.

Steve Hamilton played in that as well.

Nah mate, not unless Greg was about 11 when he started playing league.

It was actually Adrian McAdam who played in the Under 17 premiership with Carey. Carey mentioned it recently on the Margnook Footy Show. Ronnie Burns immediately said "Adrian was the best of the McAdams". Gilbert immediately responded with "No way". The other panelists were about to give Gilbert heaps when he responded "The elder brother Greg was easily the best, but his career was ruined by knee injuries."

That North under 17 side probably produced more league footballers than any other under 17 side, but unfortunately not too many played at North. Others in that side included Shane Tongerie, Chris Thredgold, Jason Spehr and Steven Hamilton. So that is 4 AFL players, a SANFL captain, a Jack Oatey medallist and another SANFL premiership player. Additionally David Kupsch, Darren Reeves and John Timms all played league as did Scott Norton, Greg Kavanagh and Craig Hahn.

played in this team, there was a fair bit of talent in it. Approx half of the side was eligible for under 17s the following year. Was hard for guys from this team to break into the strong league side. Most of the boys played reserves at some stage.

Many years ago my mate and I kept a team sheet of the Norwood U17 that ran rampant for years winning several premierships.
Of those kids here are the ones who played League with any consistency :

David Pitmann : Crows player too.
Tim McNeil
David Payne
Brenton Klaebe

Yeah, i remember playing against those dynamite Norwood Junior sides in the 80s. They were dominant.
Thats amazing that only that many played consistent league footy. But I reckon you could add Jerry D"Antochia to that list.

On a side note
Tim McNeil was somehow pilfered from Westies prior to his 1st season of U17s.
Yeah, Naah,..... Bollocks!

When Gilbert was playing U17s for North they drew the GF with Norwood. Then lost the replay. (1984)
Norwood were red hot favourites (i dont think they lost a match all season) & nearly blew it.
Not sure if McGowan was playing. Darren Jarman was though.

Carey was too young, he came later.

That North team's stars were Gilbert McAdam, Darren Jarman and a 14 year old Doug Smart and dual Commonwealth Games hammer throw gold medallist Sean Carlin.

Greg would agree with Gilbert's assertion!
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Yes I forgot about Jerry Dantiochia.
Was another young guy who looked the goods for the Redlegs but retire very very early due to some arthritic condition ..... can't remember his name.
