Here goes a Clarke special. Play his shots, and out for 20 or 100.

Why didn't DRS pick up the deflection from front bad onto back pad in the Hughes dismissal?

2019 looks like a good year to do a cricket tour to the UK might have a decent team by then and its ODI world cup and then Ashes.

What?

The ball hit the front pad and then deflected onto his rear pad and probably would of hit middle to off.
The DRS showed it hitting the front pad and going on to hit leg stump, so its not accurate IMO

It's only lbw the first time it hits the pad, not the 2nd. Hawkeye only shows the projected path. Irrelevant anyway, because it was out.

Erm, the DRS is supposed to show the path the ball would take if it continued on its path uninterrupted, meaning as though it hadn't hit the pad would it continue on to hit the stumps... it doesn't track the path the ball actually takes after it hits the pad...

I probably haven't explained that very well but the concept isn't that hard to get is it?

If the umpire puts his finger up, it's out ... if the 3rd umpire thinks that wrong he'll tell him, otherwise it's still out.

Nothing else matters ...

that's not how the LBW works, the ball can do what it wants after it hits the pad the first time. Counting the deflection in the decision would be like saying "the ball bounced off the pad towards the bowler so wouldn't have hit the stumps"

Ive been playing cricket for 33 years but don't know the rule, I would have thought that the ball is still alive after it hits the front pad and if not out on the front pad it could be given out on the back pad?

It's the first point of impact for an LBW ... can't compare it the magic bullet that killed JFK

Exactly. For example. Batsmen gets hit on pad playing shot outside off stump, ball pops up in the air , lands and spins straight back towards middle stump along the ground. Batsman then can kick the ball away to protect his stumps without fear of being LBW. What the ball does after the initial impact is irrelevent.
