Rnd 16: South v Glenelg @ Hickinbotham Oval (Sat 20/7)

Postby Big Phil » Mon Jul 15, 2013 10:21 am

The Panthers lost yet another game to the Bulldogs at Elizabeth - a venue they haven't won at since 1999, but were coming off back to back wins at home, where they had struggled earlier in the year, not winning a game their at all, prior to the West win.

Glenelg are languishing in last place, having dropped their last eight games straight and are looking very unlikely to avoid the wooden spoon, at this stage. They have some very good young kids though and just need some confidence through the group.

These two Southern Suburbs neighbours often have pretty close contests, including a draw there last year, from memory. This will be a very important game for both sides and should be a close, hard fought battle.

Can't see Glenelg winning another game for the year. They should be renamed Greater Western Adelaide. Just plain woeful.

After setting a new club record for the worst average losing margin over 8 games last week, the main interest will be in whether we can avoid setting a new record for the worst average losing margin over 9 games. We will avoid it if we lose by 45 points or less (or win!)

previous record average losing margin over 9 games = 62.3 points in 1921

current average losing margin for the last 8 games is 64.1 points

1921 was part of a 56 game losing streak. I am sure that this losing streak won't be anywhere near that bad.

If we cannot beat the bays this Saturday we deserve to finish bottom!
We usually have good tussles but with the amount of younger players in their league side one would think we should prevail.
I honestly thought both teams would be much better than they have performed, another wasted year for both clubs!!!

Watched the Panthers last week. Some good passages of play and some quick players. Their main problem was poor finishing skills / execution and decision making which cost them too many turnovers. I'd like to see Crabb, in particular, have some lessons in being more decisive and using his experience to advantage.
Only time I have seen them this year, but they look a more polished side than the Bays at the moment who are really floundering.

I'd be more than happy to have the panther roar back if it meant getting rid of that stupid horn they blast out from the past players ATCO hut up on the hill...
