Not really sure about the 80s.
For a lot of the 90s we had talented sides that were under coached, with the exception of Kevin Morris. We continued to appoint good players rather than good coaches until getting Rehn who was both. Thankfully the club has recognised that our current coach that can take a group from bottom to a competitive finalist knows what he is doing and should be backed in rather than run out of town for not going all the way, only to be replaced by an inexperienced coach that goes on to make a series of rookie errors, lose players from the club and be favourites for the wooden spoon 3/4 of the way through the year.

Are you seriously suggesting that your club is better placed now than when Mickan was in charge?

Watched the replay and in the end got sick of the commentators talking about Button's game. Ok he had a shed load of hit outs and they were naming him BOG for Glenelg but you have to put it in perspective. He rucked against 3 fwds for 3 and half quarters who were alot shorter including Gordon who is around 6ft 1nc tall and in the the main all 3 in the 2nd half barely bothered to jump in the centre square contests but rather roved off his hit outs.

James Craig had 9 hitouts in the 9 min 36 seconds he played which had he stayed fit would have evened or most likely beaten Button on the day. So given how much of an advantage Glenelg had re the hit outs ist is worrying for the Bay how they can still get spanked by 87 points.

Funny looking at the stats, North had 8 players who got hitouts and still managed 42 between them!
Because of the disparity in ruck Glenelg got 13 more clearances but 14 less inside 50s.
North's back line and on ballers were sensational in repelling and setting up chances.

Glenelg have been ok in getting the ball out, BUT once it gets out we are not good enough skill wise to maintain possession and we consistently turn the ball over

They reminded me of North under Healy, lots of kicking backwards and sideways in defence but not enough skill to pull it off and often give cheap turnovers for goals.

That all aside I was impressed with North's hard attack on the footy and tackling and some of the sure handed picking up and grabbing of the ball defied the conditions.

Glenelg have gone back 10yrs under Massie

the effort early was better then it has been, but it isn't hard for it not to be!

we don't have a gameplan

and given the situation of our team I don't believe we are in a position to be kicking across goals in the defensive half of the ground.
we should get back to basics and just go up the guts or long down the line, the less possessions we have, the less chance to turn it over!
sure we may still be losing, but at least being attacking would be more attractive to watch

Glenelg are poo and would get beaten easily by an amatuer side. They're football model under Massie makes the SANFL look extremely bad. This is terrible news for such a proud club and Chigwidden, as a club champion, should show more guts and pride and fix this problem before Glenelg becomes the club to fade off into the distance and lose its identity to an AFL reserves side

Its not good for the comp to see any side play like witches hats.
The comp needs a strong Glenelg up and going, no better away ground to visit when they are flying.
They surely have to cut up Massies contract now. If he stays to the end of the year they could be facing 150-200 point losses, they are becoming that bad. He has totally lost the playing group, might aswell give someone else a go. Just cant understand why they would wait to end of season

Are you sure? Chris Kendall mentioned a number of times yesterday that next week's game is North vs Port.

Would have thought that WWT v Central was the game of the round.

Except for 5 minutes in the last 1/4 North didn't treat the Bays like witches hats all day, if North had turned it on for at least a full quarter the margin could have broken records, honestly, I didn't think North were that impressive yesterday, Glenelg are just that bad atm

Thought Button was good enough. I had him down with 70 hit outs and 19 clearances. But when there's over 150 stoppages in a game instead of the usual average of 80, you're bound to end up with a stack of taps. Found that on numerous occasions he was beaten too easily by a smaller body (ie Johnston, Dalwood and Langford) or just hitting in hope. His 40-metre smashes forward were good. Would have expected the likes of Meiklejohn, Parry, Craig, etc rack up 100 hit outs in a similar situation though.

Best game I've seen Johnston play. His all-round numbers were fantastic - I had him with 29 disposals, 8 marks, 6 tackles, 17 hit outs, 8 clearances, 8 inside 50s, 5 rebound 50s and 3 goals. Unfortunately for North it's a performance that'll raise the eyebrows of the hierarchy at the Crows.

Dunno if Bays supporters saw it this way but even though he only kicked two goals I thought Roury Kirkby was right up there in the best today. Crap day for big forwards but his second efforts, tackling, pressure, corralling and ground work was brilliant. You see all too often big men give up on the ground, particularly on days like yesterday.

You have to be joking if you think Kirkby was in the Bays best??? Miles easily controlled him HOWEVER I know he has had a knee injury but he is a shadow of his old self but part of that maybe due to the fact he hasn't any other help up fwd to put pressure on the oppostions key defenders? Plus the way the Bays are playing at present it would be frustrating being a forward with their game plan.

As for other players a shadow of their past best cue Ty Allen and Ben Mules. Getting games on reputation not form IMO and in the conditions yesterday they should have been well suited to getting alot more of it. You can forgive experienced players a week or so every now having a quiet / poor game but looking at Allen's stats this year (and the two times I have seen him live) he has been poor week in week out. Mules not much better either. Why Mules was left up fwd for long periods yesterday only the coach can explain? He looks lost from two times I have seen him this year also. He made his name and reputation as a hard running, no nonsense half back / back pocket player not as a half forward flanker / FP goal sneak? Even giving him an extended run on the ball yesterday may have helped the team overall?

Great to see Ty Allen and "Roury" Kirkby honoured with a banner to run through. Shame the makers didn't do a spell check.

Hmm the banner - I have never seen players from the Reserves called onto help hold up a banner? Trainers and officials fair enough but players???
