ok, he ran with the ball long enough to find time to dispose of it, he didn't BUT I thought to be pinged holding the ball, you need to make the tackle stick. In my opinion, play on.

I'm pretty sure Josh Francou mentioned, post game, he was disappointed that Matt didn't take the rushed behind option...

He musn't have thought it through then.
If that umpire calls that holding the ball then if anyone attempted to rush anything through it would have been given an Eagles free kick in front of goals, absolutely no doubt.
In theory what Matt did had a 0% chance of giving away a free kick where if he'd rushed it through he would have being giving a free kick 50% chance of being played. He took the right option.

This is the most glaring point in the conversation. The Eagles player didn't appear to lay a tackle.

Disagree. Seeing the amount of traffic around the footy and the fact the umpire was in perfect position to see the whole pack of players around the footy in front him, I think the umpire would have deemed Campbell to be under enough pressure to warrant rushing it and thus giving the Roosters posession back. Josh also publicly mentioned his disappointment in Ben Williams for poor skill excecution, then George Thring for missing that goal, Max for not having the vision to see a free team-mate over the top and Cohen Thiele for missing an easy shot as well. Anyway, it is all done and dusted now.

Kicking 1.5 in the final term didn't help, as previously discussed. I can think of 3 scenarios that should have been goals for the Roosters and would have resulted in the North win.

Having just seen some vision courtesy of the Recovery Session there's no doubt in my mind that the umpire got it right with the free kick to Goldsworthy for holding the ball on the siren. Campbell has taken 4 steps (plenty of prior opportunity) and then disposes of the ball illegally. No chance of in the back there.

I will suggest though the umpires looked bad both ways all day. North however were gifted a few goals from dodgy decisions. Stop your whining Roosters.

You can clearly see where his arms went in relation to Campbell's body......straight around the neck. Sloppiest tackle of the day. How it got paid is beyond me.
Anyway, as foul as it is, it's done.

We got one goal from a free kick which was there - first quarter when the Eagles defender held Langford from having a leap at the ball. Gifted - the irony of you using that given the free against Campbell.

How can you tell how he disposed of it from the vision??? That is not clear yet everyone behind the goal and from the scoreboard / timeclock saw him get hit high and dispose of the ball with a handball. The only one who didn't see it was the umpire.

In that quarter we scored 3 goals and one was from a from a free which we wouldn't have been scored except the Eagles gave away a 25 that put Max Thring from outside the 50 into the 50. I suggest you watch the replay and see who got the gifted goals!

And the vision shows the umpire was on the other side of the contest, so it is conceivable that he did not see the high contact that the supporters saw on the other side of the contest.

Exactly why boundary umpires should be given powers to pay obvious free kicks.

Have just watched the replay on the Recovery Session. Campbell (who played a great game BTW) took several steps, had ages to give it off, and was clearly tackled - I think it was around the arms, clearly some others don't.

I've always thought that if the ball comes loose, play on is always the best decision - the player is penalized in no longer having possession of the ball.

However, when there's prior opp and the player loses the ball, 49 out of 50 are paid. It's just he way it is. North fans have no cause for complaint IMO.

That goal came from 3 x 25m penalties. No team was gifted goals more than the other IMO.

I thought it very poor form how the North supporters with obvious anger management issues had a go at the Eagles players as they were handing footballs to the kids at the fence at the end of the game.
Surely, the issue wasn't with the players. The language used was a disgrace given it was the kids time. And the punch thrown at an Eagles supporter at the same time missed by a country mile.
