Funnily enough, Cowan's strike rate of 50.87 this innings is above his career first class strike rate of 46.76 and Test strike rate of 41.45. Him batting late at night our time could mean many people fall asleep

Definitely a lot more positive now than after the Champions Trophy. Lehmann looks to have breathed new life in to the team with some changes and common sense. A batting line up lead by an in form Watson, who will also bowl, looks capable. Rogers had to play and his 75 gives hope that a shaky top order might become a strength, even if just for the next 10 Tests.

Looks like the top 4 will be the same as against Worcestershire - Watson, Rogers, Cowan, Clarke.

Then two spots for either Smith, Hughes, Faulkner or Warner. The former 3 have a chance to stake their claim - Faulkner would need to be an absolute stand out if Watson will bowl. I would rather see Haddin at 7 and Hughes and Smith at 5 and 6 to start the 1st Test.

The bowlers look easier to pick. Pattinson, Starc, Siddle and Lyon should get first crack.

Could it be that Australia has timed its run to perfection? Or perhaps just getting excited about some runs against a struggling County side which will amount to zilch once Anderson and co have a shiny new Duke in their hand?

Certainly a reasonable excuse.

I noticed Cowan was run out in the first innings.

Is he the worse runner between wickets in the history of Australian test cricket.

Yes.

Did you see the replay? Looked like mid-on had tied his shoelaces together when he wasn't looking and he tripped as he took off for the single.
