Great win by SA. Brilliantly led by Luke Dunstan and Matt Scharenberg. Really should have won by a lot more after having over 100 more possessions than WA. Didn't quite finish off all of their work as effectively as they could have. Interesting last qtr....SA twice penalised...once when runner got involved in play and a second time when water girl did the same.

WESTERN Australia's leaping forward Cameron McCarthy has suffered a suspected broken leg, souring his impressive form at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.

McCarthy landed awkwardly in a marking contest in the last quarter of his side's 10-point loss to South Australia, and was helped from the field.

There were initial fears he had hurt his ankle but the West Australian camp believe McCarthy has broken his fibula and will miss the rest of the season.

Well done boys a fantastic effort.
Not a Phillips fan and would think they won despite Phillips not because of him.

Feeling a bit melancholy about this win.
Congrats to the boys but what does this all really mean for SA footy these days? Besides the fact that Sticks has done a great job coaching a group of talented young footballers?
Reality is, most of these guys will play just a handful of SANFL league games, if that, before being drafted and spending their entire career playing AGAINST the two SA teams which have been created for this national competition many of us now rue. Those two teams, the Crows and the Power, are now full of interstate players with few South Australians and captained by a Sandgroper and a Victorian.
The only other benefit to SA will be a few thousand dollars which flow back to their parent SANFL clubs who are all largely going broke as the AFL corners the lion's share of the game's wealth and re-directs it to GWS and the Gold Coast, while starving the game's traditional markets of funds.
I don't reckon any of us signed up for this.
Just reckon we've all been conned.
Anyway, good luck to James Aish, future 250-game player and dual premiership player for GWS.
At least Norwood got some value out of him before he leaves.

What does it mean for SA? It's a re-assurance that the SANFL Junior Development system is working well and producing top notch talent. The harsh reality is that this talent will more than likely go to another state to further their football careers, particularly with the Crows being restricted in the draft. I'm not sure there is a con job here, it just the way the system works. When first of all the Crows were formed and then the Power, I cannot imagine anyone could have thought it would be an opportunity for all South Australians to play for a South Australian team.

Unbelievable.

South Australia win our first U18 National Title in nearly 20 years and you blokes criticise/question the coach and lament the system that has been in place for more than 20 years.

Is it too much to ask to simply congratulate Phillips, the players and all involved?

A great effort to win this comp, and as has rightly been said, it shows how well the junior development system is working. This result means more than any meaningless state league game we play most years.

Come on has been just a "sorry I was sadly wrong" will suffice mate after your cheap shot from a distance.
