Two interesting things from this weekend's coverage that I've seen/heard.

1) Earlier in this thread I suggested that Cornesy would go nuts if the SA sides ended up in the VFL, meaning two more SA teams under the 'yoke of AFL oppression'. Turns out, he actually thinks the SA sides should go to the VFL. I figure, in fairness, I should acknowledge that fact.

2) Rucci on 5AA said something interesting, saying that the Power can't have their cake and eat it. He suggested the Power and Crows should be in the SANFL reserves only and that means there will only be eight clubs in the league next year, no Maggies.

Whatever happens, at the final outcome, there's going to be some disappointed people.

I'd be interested to hear from Port supporters just what compromises they are willing to make from the basic model Thomas and Koch have been pushing in order for them to have a reserves team in the SANFL.
ie forego the zones, don't play for points etc.

When the SANFL clubs pass down their decision, both The Crows & The Power will be disappointed.

Agreed - both clubs want Reserves Teams to develop players into AFL structures and in the positions they want them to play in so they are ready for the AFL so does it really matter what comp they play in, they can do that just as easily in the Reserves?

I was amazed when Kym Hodgeman, on 5AA out of the blue said he hoped the crows and power have reserve teams next year...beginning to think it may be a done deal.....hope I'm wrong

Judging by the conversations I overheard and was part of behind the northern goals at Elizabeth yesterday, the Maggies cheer squad will be dead against it.

They took Andrew Moore out of North's side so we had to pull a ressies player out mid game to make up numbers for our league side.
Our reserves had to play the rest of the match one short and ended up losing by 6 points, a win would have given North top spot.

Even more justification to have all port players in one place.

I mean seriously, what would happen ,if one of your league players had to pull out half way through the reserves?

That same scenario happens around the state multiple times every weekend I would think.

No shit, but it doesn't change the fact this sort of thing happens at times, or that north knew he was an emergency.

Personally, I think it could have been avoided in this case by better fixturing, but out of interest do you think port should have played one short?

Tonsillitis. Decision on him playing hadn't been made at the time Moore was called to Football Park

I have no issues with that but make an earlier call or did Butcher's tonsillitis suddenly appear just before 11.45 when the call was made? North had plenty of players who could have played in the Reserves had they been given some courtesy but once the game starts you cannot alter your 21! So much for all the bullsh*t that KT has been sprouting about AFL Reserves etc. and integrity etc., only when it suits the PAFC Selfish mob of c....s!

WHEN the Power & Crows have reserves sides, does this mean that SANFL players won't sign contracts with their respective clubs anymore?
OR will they all have clauses in their contracts which states that, should either the Crows or the Power call upon their services, they MUST play for them.

With all the speculation and some journos throwing out conflicting articles and opinions you'd think that they would've realised that there was one very good source for an opinion that's actually worth something and one that is at the heart of the matter. That is of course the opinions of ALL players both SANFL and AFL. We've had a few little grabs from Rory Slone and Bernie Vince but you'd think some eager young journo would've seen a great opportunity to cover something of actual fact and merit......god forbid that any senior journo took such and outrageous move!

Players? Last people to listen to. They're concerned for their own careers, not the SANFL in 15 years time.
