Any different to any other reserves side?

And he's hit the nail on the head.
Which is why reserves sides belong in a reserves competition, not a league competition.

Yep. Square on, well centred.

ADELAIDE'S push to have a Crows reserves team in the SANFL league competition next year hinges on changing the concerns of at least three state league clubs.

As the league directors prepare for an SA Football Commission briefing on the vexing reserves debate tonight at AAMI Stadium, it is already clear the Crows do not have the votes to secure entry to the SANFL next year.

North Adelaide already has passed a motion in its boardroom declaring a philosophical reluctance to endorse the Crows having a reserves team in the SANFL league series and the Power taking over the Magpies.

Norwood will seek to have the final vote delayed until next year, after the commission has resolved the sale of the SA-based AFL licences to the AFL Commission and stadium deal at the new Adelaide Oval.

Even then, the Redlegs are only prepared to endorse the Crows joining the SANFL reserves competition.

Sent my thoughts on the matter to the South CEO earlier in the week. Predicably the response was that they’re waiting for more information, and until then no decisions can be made on the matter.

That most recent article has a more positive vibe than a few others I've read recently. Well done North and Nwd.

Just because North and Norwood have come out publically with their stance doesn't mean any final decision has been made as no formal proposals / options have been tabled to any of the clubs. My mail is that the definite preferred option is the Rucci model however the AFL Clubs aren't overly happy with that BUT it has to be what is best for the 8 League Clubs not what is best for 2 teams of Reserves from AFL Clubs which both the AFC and PAFC seem to disregard with all their "media" attacks re what they want.
Piss weak SANFL and the CLOWNS who run it.

Surely with the Western Bulldogs announcing they will field a stand alone side in the VFL next year it is time for the AFL to get its head out of the sand and start a reserves comp.
The reserves would be a curtain raiser at the same venues as their league counterparts.
Maybe attendences will go up if people are getting a double header and id imagine one of the networks would pick up coverage. Logistically makes sense aswell all the squad plus coaching, medical staff could jump on the same plane and be at the same venue. Perhaps there would even be some costs saved.

The focus from both Port and Adelaide is on joining an already established comp.
Have they had discussions with the AFL regarding a reserves comp? Has there been a formal position from the AFL that this won't happen? Is this why the SANFL, VFL, SAAFL options are being investigated?
The majority of the debate has focused on the SANFL, maybe it needs to turn back to the AFL.

Agreed.
The positives of a reserves comp would far outweigh the negatives IMO

Yep. I've been spruiking, all along, that the solution is an AFL Reserves comp. It worked 15 years ago (with just Melbourne based teams, I admit) but as Jim05 pointed out above, what is stopping it from working again, on the national level.

Why hasn't anyone higher up pushed this agenda with the AFL?

My mail from a reliable source close to the SANFL is the following pecking order for the Power & Crows

SANFL
VFL
NEAFL
SAAFL
SANFL RESERVES.
2017, 2019 & 2020 PREMIERS
RICHMOND, RICHMOND, RICHMOND.

Let that be a lesson to you Sturt. You don't beat Glenelg 3 times in a row in Grand Finals and get away with it.

I imagine the AFL have invested heavily in the NEAFL and the model they decided on not all that long ago would be all the State Leagues feeding through to the AFL. The preference being getting footy in North-East Australia strong as opposed to a national Reserves competition. Obviously this conflicts with the SANFL, if the SANFL doesn't want AFL reserves competing in their competition.

Given Adelaide's close proximity to Victoria, I don't see an issue with the Crows and Power Reserves joining the VFL. If this relatively small cost isn't affordable, then stiff, keep as is or take best available path. It's a small price to pay to keep a dignified SANFL competition.

$$$$$

Far cheaper to have 2nds teams playing locally.

AFL need to keep proping up the Northern clubs and their infrastructure (support competitions). The infrastructure exists in the Southern States.

Also only one Adelaide AFL club likes that model (playing in the VFL or NEAFL). PADFC want to play locally so they only have five sides to run (based on their preferred structure). Set up an AFL reserves competition and they have to fund six teams provided they waant to keep teh magpies.

I would think a national reserves comp would mean the clubs would have to increase their lists to prob 60+ players, taking further players out of the state leagues. I guess the susbsequent increase in player wages might be covered by increased tv rights if they were broadcast. It would prob mean no state leagues would be on tv. The already struggling clubs like Melb, Port, N Melb, Bris etc and might go bust.

Here is a plane they can buy and share between them for $2 million. Bargain. Luke Thompson has his plane license doesn't he? That would get him an extended contract. Trigg's not doing anything at the moment, perhaps he can take Sando's wife over to Russia as translator where they can purchase the plane. Thompson has the bye with the Eagles this week so is available.
