Surely no-one expects an SANFL team associated with an AFL team and playing their reserves players to have the same salary cap as the rest?

Counted Blee as the travelling emergency too. Plus Stewart, Moore in league and Siggins in the twos.

Almost included Young as a North player and then Butcher as I was double checking!

Fair point. Would have to be a similar arrangement to clubs in the VFL, surely?

Maybe one of the Melbourne based posters on here may be able to give a more recent figure, but this extract from an article in a VFL Record from 2010:-

"Given the unique nature of the VFL, with its mix of aligned, partly aligned, stand-alone and AFL clubs, salary cap levels vary markedly. Each is clearly defined: independent VFL clubs have a $350,000 salary cap; partially aligned clubs $280,000; aligned clubs $215,000 and AFL clubs $155,000."

If Matthew Clarkes interview on 5AA yesterday is anything to go by, Adelaide 100% want an SANFL reserves team playing in the league next year. He was quite adamant that this was the best thing for the AFC.

Ah yes Matthew (I love the SANFL) Clarke, he stated that the Crows reserves would be 100% trying to win the SANFL premiership but when Rucci asked him what would happen if a players form didn't warrant him being in that side what would happen i.e where would he play or would he be kept in the side regardless he gave a fair impression of Julia Gillard in Question Time. So Matthew; having a player not deserving of a place in the side = 100% trying to win, PLEASE ! Of course the hosts thought that because he is vaguely articulate he made good points, well all he did was trot out the party line that AFC want a "reserves" side in the SANFL League comp next year but gave no substance .

So are you suggesting that BOTH Port Teams are not Financial Basket-cases?
Are you suggesting that it is NOT PAFC (AFL) that has 'brokered' the shift to Adelaide Oval due to financial reasons?
Are you also suggesting that it is not Port Magpies that have been 'borrowing' future dividends from the SANFL to survive financially?

I wasn't happy with the merge but what has happened has happened but please, don't preach to me about 'suffering' at the hands of the SANFL - the SANFL for years was just a pseudonym for PAFC anyway - they got whatever they wanted & it appears that it is STILL happening FFS.

Does the term "Eyes Wide Shut" mean anything to you 'Beeny'?
No matter how you look at it, AFL Reserves in OUR Competition will destroy it as a LEGITIMATE competition, it will just become another VFL, AFLNSW, NEAFL, etc.
Great for YOUR Club & the Cows but f***ing shite for mine & the other 7 SANFL Clubs.

Is this based on what Godden said at that press conference, or something else? As an Eagles member, I can't say the club has given me indication either way, although I am a pessimist.

b). Ask your board. Wouldn't even surprise me if they break ranks at some stage and try to jump Sturt in the queue to become Crows' affiliate.

I know there are few certainties in life, but the position, as recently as Sunday, is that Sturt is not interested in becoming the Crow's affiliate, tough times or not, it would effectively be the end of their 112 year old tradition. The one's in charge are well aware of that.

Of course  But its the fact that he didn't answer the question that is germane . He says that they will be trying to win when they will actually be looking to develop players. Quite difference there , he is saying what he thinks people want to hear. Surely that's obvious.

You say he said they will try to win 100% but then intimated that if you select a player whose form doesn't warrant selection means you are not trying to win. I was merely pointing out this is not true. You select the best available, and if you only have 10 decent players, a couple of spuds and some fill ins then you select them. Some blokes get a bit more of a go because of past deeds or potential or they are the coaches pet.

Or, perhaps, the insistence of coaching staff or selectors higher up the food chain?

A Jarman says that 6 are in favour (only named Glenelg though) and 2 are against....

I'll be emailing Jason Kilic (Sturt pres) to let him know my thoughts...

I spoke to Kris Grant Sunday and he told me Central havent recieved any information from the Crows/Power on what the set up would be like and are not even close to making a decision either way.

I would suggest Jarman is just making up a figure.

Think most clubs if not all clubs would be in a similar position who get a say on the matter.

Why did he only name Glenelg and not the other 5 supposed "in favour" clubs?

And he's hit the nail on the head.
Which is why reserves sides belong in a reserves competition, not a league competition.
