Hmm. The possibility that the team I have grown up loving may or may not (as we know, nothing has been decided) disappear is getting discussed on nearly every thread in the SANFL board and I'm a little precious over it? Well pardon me.It's nearly as prolific as the publicity surrounding the Gowans' book. I said nearly.

Well assuming you over the endless commentary around the subject then tell your club to withdraw it's selfish wish to want a Reserves Team in our comp and then we will stop commenting on defending our "turf"! Typical selfish PAFC attitude - suits you to discuss it when you want to but only on your tems and when it suits your agenda!

Was wondering when your furrowed brow would glance upon this, knowing a snipe was to follow.

I'm not "over the endless commentary", just figure there are far more than enough topics in which to discuss it without bringing it into a game preview thread.

Maybe there should be a thread discussing how much discussion is appropriate for an event such as the potential end of the SANFL's traditional top dog?
I'm usually not one for goodbyes but there are occasions for them. If we forget about the negative controversies surrounding this topic, which have plagued so many other threads, we could welcome the opportunity to discuss the reality of the last Norwood/ Port clash at Alberton. If we can be mature enough to have such a discussion we'd surely be reminded that we are (potentially) losing a large chunk of our (the SANFL's) culture. As such this clash deserves to remembered and I don't think BP is amiss in calling attention to this.
If it's the last time it's going to happen then I think it's deserving of as large a crowd as possible.
I reckon we should be respectful of both these clubs' proud histories, and leave the political sniping to the other threads and we can give due justice to the fact that indeed there may never be a Port/Norwood clash at Alberton ever again. A sad thought, but let's give it away in style. In the old days a minimum of 12,000 would be expected with the possibility of a capacity 24,000 odd.
How many does it deserve in it's historical context? Can the 'Pies, against the odds, leave their home turf for the final time, heads held high, against their bitterest foe?
(Sorry Booney, obviously I think it's worth discussing.)

Well said. It may not even necessarily be likely that this is 'the last Alberton game', but the fact that it's a real possibility makes the whole topic worth reflecting on, because it's not parochialism to say that Port v Norwood is one of the great sporting rivalries, in any sport or code, in Australia. It will be at least another 50 years of Crows v Power matches before they can seriously begin to approach the breadth and scope of sporting history in this rivalry. Both the origins of the rivalry, and the great clashes over the years, would be a worthy subject of a book.
