Anyhow there should not be any more whinging moaning and groaning from at least 95 % of Power/Magpie supporters as it was their majority decision back in 1996 to desert the SANFL comp and go and play with the VICS however i do feel for those true diehard supporters who have stuck with the Maggies through thick and thin these supporters might now have to witness the destruction of the legendary Magpie brand so really in the end there is no ones else to blame but the Port Adelaide Football Club so you can all stop playing the blame game.

Again an ironic position coming from the supporter of a club that was prepared to wind up their entire operation in order to compromise the SANFL by joining the national League.

As for the predictable response from SMAC. Not one Port supporter expects anything close to sympathy from any of you. The simple facts are, the PAFC along with all other participants in the bidding process agreed and signed off on the express conditions of the License. The move to Ethelton was then tabled after based on fear and paranoia. That certainly presents an interesting perspective on who can be trusted.

I'll bite,

$hit idea, unless you are going to charge a premium each year, a sort of "the cost of compromise" tariff. And that would want to be a substantial amount of money. But then you are turning all the other 8 clubs and the SANFL into prostitutes.

The idea of a side having ineligible AFL players for the finals is carp too. It creates a false finals series where a side could be stacked to get them into the 5, or into the 3, or top before the finals begin, then a half arsed side is in a position they do not deserve.

It is all too orchestrated, a frigging pantomime.

Been Real its not an ironic position its the truth and it has been highlighted by numerous posters scribes over the last 20 odd years add nauseum etc etc 95 % of Magpie supporters voted to go and join the VICS because they had outgrown the SANFL so some of you guys can stop your whinging and also do not deflect from the current situation by bringing up another ridiculous topic regarding another club. Were Central supporters ever approached or even voted on joining a national competition ??????? I can not recall my vote would of been NO NO NO. Centurion can you tell me if this was on the agenda ????
Unfortunately you all might reap what you sowed back in 1990/1996 killing off the Magpies and i will say it again if you did not comprehend and get the gist of my initial post YES i do feel sorry for the true blue Magpie supporter who did not turn their backs on the Magpies.

Nup, sorry Red ... shit idea, period!

I can not accept EITHER Port or Adelaide in our competition - they don't belong there.

Sadly, Maggies must die - that's the price you pay for your 'Name' PAFC.
Adelaide - soul-less, corporate entity.

The point made by Chris Kendel is right - why would a SANFL Coach risk his players in a game for no points that is a 'glorified trial game'?

Rucci is a 'dog' - he has been banging on in support of this for years, but to sell papers, he releases recent stories about suggesting compromises.
He has been 'white-anting' the SANFL for years - re: Adelaide Oval vs Footy Park debate - You don't fool me 'Magpie Mike', we all know who pays your wages.

Make no mistake, the VFA post earlier says it all - this decision has the potential to destroy the competition.
As for "being afraid of change"... "no being forward thinking" etc. - that is not the issue here.
Don't preach to me about change, my club died in 1990. That is change enough.
I don't want to see any other club (Port Magpies excepted because of the 'One Club' premise) die or be forced to merge with a SANFL or AFL Club in order to 'survive'.

I understand that for those 2 AFL Clubs, a reserves side is important for there on-field success - just NOT in our league!

Interesting analogy and so very pertinent. A condition of AFL submission was the maintenance of an SANFL side.

Once again (for the hard of reading):-

-"The proposal of the tenderer had to include how the SANFL competition would be reduced to 8 teams."; and

-"Details of the offeror’s proposal would need to state what effect a successful bid would have on its team to be fielded in the SANFL competition and how this effect can be minimised."
-

Quote Brian Cunningham and Greg Boulton, 2002.

The Commission said nothing of "having" to maintain an SANFL presence, only "having" to detail the effect on one if its bid was successful. As it happens-

- "The PAFC tender document did not support nor agree to the (Commission's) pre-condition of a merger to create 8 SANFL teams was fundamental to the granting of the licence."

Enough already!

The 'proposal' voiced by Ken Russell at the time was simply one of at least a couple (Norwood / Sturt being another) put against the existing Port bid, which was arguably fait-accompli by that stage anyway. It wasn't like anyone at the CDFC just suddenly woke up one morning and said "screw the SANFL!"

How does reducing the size of a competition compromise the nature and core purpose of that competition? That is, afterall, what we're talking about here.

Plus, if you remember right our bid was not really a bid to be in the AFL. We never wanted that nor expected it. In our bid, the letters AFL stood for 'A Football Life'. We just simply wanted to survive and play football.

Just how great a cost would it really be for the Adelaide FC to have a Reserves Team in the VFL?

One would think they would fly their team over and play the match on the same day, so there would not be any great number of times when accomodation is required so its largely the airfares to get them there which for the AFC would hardly be an insurmountable problem.

I suspect the AFC simply do not want the cost of running their own AFL Reserves team and would much rather the WAFL model where they take over an SANFL club and they wear the cost and burden of running the club whilst the AFC appoint their own coach to it and dictate how the players will be played for the duration of the match. Again I suspect the issue for the AFC is not the match day cost of getting players to the game but the cost of running and organising the side throughout the year.
