quote]Kangarilla coach made his team do extra running after their loss to Kersbrook. Kersbrook players were inside singing the club song, and Stringer has players doing sprints after a 10 goal loss![/quote]
Not sure if its the same one, But the Stringer who coached Happy Valley in the SFL a few years ago made his team train at half time when about 15 goals up,then do full lap sprints after the game, bowling over 3 year old kids in the crowd, when they won by 25 goals because they didn't kick 30 for the match. Is that arrogant or what. This is after walking across the ground during play in the B grade to see his son who had his lip split after he threw one too many elbows and cheap shots. What a tool.

I remember reading in the budget either last week or a few weeks ago about when Lofty plays Birdwood and who has the right to wear the red and white. Apparently, if i remember correctly the letter said that Lofty get the right to wear the red and white regardless of whether the match is at Heathfield or Birdwood, because they have been around in central div longer. This means that Birdwood will have to wear the HFL association uniform for both clashes. What's everyones opinion on this??

I think that the home team should get to wear the colours and the other team to wear the HFL gear. Its only once a year, so i dont really see the big deal.

Yeah, home team.
Mind you, sometimes it's the actual arrangement of the guernsey colours eg in the wet against Hahndorf and Nairne it was hard to immediately see a Devs guernsey.
Is the V versus the Stripes a real problem?

I could imagine that the V vs the stripes would be a problem, you dont normally look for patterns but for the predominant colour and seeing both are the same then i could imagine it would be hard. But like you said, in the wet with everyone covered in mud and you cant tell anyway. Interesting to see what gets said about it a little closer to the game.

The real problem is that Mt Lofty don't have candy stripes on the back anymore, so both Birdwood and Mt Lofty jumpers look the same from behind ie. all red with a white number. This would make it virtually impossible for an umpire to officiate properly because they are required to look at all contests unbiasedly from all angles. Players and spectators may be able to tell the difference easier because of their allignment with their club and team but umpires do not and should not have this association with the teams.

Agree with a couple of Mt Lofty blokes so far - away team should wear the Association jumpers. That way the association jumper team will have white shorts both times. Otherwise when at Birdwood, Birdwood will have the association jumper with red shorts and Mt Lofty will have Red jumper with white shorts and both with red socks, it will look sh!t house. Who ever it is at Mt Lofty who is refusing to wear the association jumper when away, get over yourselves. As previously stated by a Mt Lofty supporter, it is only one game.

No one at Mt Lofty is refusing to wear the association jumper. I read in the budget that Birdwood are angry that they have to wear the association jumper for their home game. Dont jump the gun and assume its always Mt Lofty stirring up trouble.

Good point re the back of the guernseys, it'd be hopeless for umpires...and Birdwood really, cos they'd be chasing all day anyway

Sorry lovinfooty, I was probably a bit quick to point the finger. And I didn't mean to imply that Mt Lofty are stirring up trouble.

But if Birdwood are unhappy they have to wear the association jumper at their first home game, who is forcing them to wear it? If the clubs agree then why would the league have to force them to wear it both games this year? :?

I heard that it was a condition imposed on birdwood that they would have to play in a different strip if they wanted to go up to div 1 when they play Mt Lofty. I assume that would have come from Mt Lofty. If this is the case and Birdwood agreed then bad luck, if this is not the case then surely the 2 clubs can come to an agreement. If Birdwood were so desperate to go up then they shoudn't have sold their soul to the devils. :snakeman:

The visiting club should always be made to compromise their jumper if a clash is the result of not doing so regardless of whether we are talking hills footy or AFL. A guernsey is the symbol of a footy club and no team should have to or chose to wear a neutral jumper in front of HOME supporters. If a clash jumper cost the team wearing it money to produce then I could understand why the established club in that league would not want to accomodate the new guy if they've chosen to come up, but the league are lending these jumpers out for free so there shouldn't be a problem there. No club's history or pride is more important than any others. Basically- the away team should wear the HFL jumpers.

Daniel Exelby is a Playing Coach at Ironbank, he was last year aswell.

I would assume Ryan would be at Glenelg again next year with Tarque? Meadows would be unstoppable if those 2 played cricket for them though...

That would mean that Birdwood get to wear the Red and White both times as they have been in existance for over 100 years I thought? Mt Lofty has only been around since Heathfield/Aldgate United and Stirling merged in the late 70's?

Thats true, Mt Lofty have only been "Mt Lofty" since the merging in 1979. That was one of the points in this letter that Birdwood have been around for longer.

So far everyone seems to agree that the away team should wear the Assoc. jumpers. So if Mt Lofty are willing to wear it at Birdwood, who is it that is forcing the issue?

What a shame, it would be just about the end of association football. Why is it dying? What is different now to when player would give their left nut to play to represent their league?

Dunno...are we more time-poor now and cherish our weekends more? That's really all I can put it down to.
And it's not just in the HFL though.

I think the general consesus is that with a 18 game round, 4 weeks of finals and a couple of months of preseason its just a matter of fitness, injuries and morale. I know of several clubs with a growing injury list with NO time to try to get those players better. Especially with minor injuries like niggling hamstrings, a week can make the world of difference. It was nice with those couple of weeks off and now with Sunday/Friday night football it feels like im working a 7 day week all winter.

Bring back the bye and im sure you will see more interest in association football.
