MTLOFTY BOG

Postby Adevilatheart » Tue May 29, 2007 12:01 pm
HILLS CENTRAL – Round Six
Mount Lofty 28.25 (193) d Lobethal 8.4 (52).
Best - Mt Lofty: J Floreani, B Pistola, A Trzesinski, N Petersen-Gray, A Cooper. Lobethal: B Gray, D King, S Priestley, K Mahlberger, G Schutz.
Goals - MI Lofty: B Pistola 6, N PetersenGray 5, T White 4, S Wood 4, S Wood, H Cutting 3, M Nielsen, S Baldock 2, B Burch, O Temme, A Trzesinski. Lobethal: D Hibberd 3, M Schroeder, L Bums 2, B Dray.

Just a wee little statement about the best players on the weekend they were highly misplaced, who ever is doing the votes down there much be watching different games. Wood should have been up white as well both class and kick 4 each, Artis should have got a mention ahd the pill on a string on the wing coming back from injury giving lofty plenty of forward pressure, J.Temme was good in the ruck all day probably one of the best in the league with his around the ground athleticism's, DK stevens held strong and is a top defended keeping most of the top forward quite so watch out cause the Lebanese stallion is coming, M.stapleton produced nearly all the run on the back line with Trzensiski and Cooper, Peach on his first full game was solid, trigger had to chase a kick on the back line but good on him great confidence builder.
I think BOG is Getting judge on Arsey stuff or someone did well for one to two quarters, They are not giving Praise to the guys that get the hard ball gets or setup the amount of goals that are kicked with their skills. and if it keeps being one side locals will suffer. so maybe other clubs need to start looking at some of the players at lofty cause if to much is going wrong this year, then i think some of you guy might be lining up with some lofty boys or worst they will go to town and play cause most of them could easily make a div 1 side.

on a lighter note, good on pistols, might stay in the side until the lofty forward come back but maybe not the really small forward system is working for lofty. forwards to come back into the side, WAit, Gordon, Fleet and racer.... pistols also had the ball put to him all day good on the kid he listens well to the older and experiences guys well...

loby did not tag at all and that was there down fall.
Apparently there wasn't a very good turnout from either division for interleague training last Wedesday night and there weren't many apologies either.
Will be interesting to see what the Big O has to say about this.[/quote

Two that were there last week wont be this week either... With a couple of injuries to young Ironbank boys in the weekends game!!! Wouldn't be surprised if u see Ironbank knock of Uraidla next time at Thunder Park! The young Thunderers had a real crack in the last quarter closing the margin to just 3 goals... before running out of legs (obvious reason the bench was down to just one fit player) With the two injured being guns in Naughton and Walter!!! Not to mention the fact the coach wasn't playing.

Adevilatheart I think you'd find that local players at Lofty have been well represented in the best players on the HFL site at least this season- and when a side has won four games by 10goals plus out of six some players will be unlucky to miss out on formal recognition- bit hypocritical though to say locals are not getting recognised then say Wood and White should have got the choccies on the weekend.

Also, here's a rumour, I heard that Lobey will need someone else to move the magnets this saturday arvo as their coach (who's name eludes me) busted his hand delivering one of the most fierce half time sprays of all time on saturday against Lofty last week! Can any tigers (or from what I heard anyone who was within a 10km radius of Heathfield oval on satdy arvo) confirm this?

Dangermouse, its defintely not a rumour, I clearly heard the barrage of abuse coming out of the visitors rooms at Lofty on saturday, it was hard not too.

In terms of the busted hand it wouldnt suprise me, all i heard was what sounded like someone smashing their fist into a wall, it was so loud that im guessing some damaged must have been done.

Is it true the Lobey coach made the players observe a minutes silence in the Club rooms after their loss to Bridgewater? Just a story I heard about the Lobey Coach. Keep treating his players like that, and he might bolster our player stocks!

Not quite.... after the loss to Blackwood he made all the players stand up the front in the clubrooms during the after match presentations for a minute to look at all the people they had let down. The players now also have to run twice as many sprints as the goals they lose by so after a 23 goal loss to Lofty they have to sprint 46 lengths of the cricket pitch!!!! Cant see Hibberd, Dray or Coad doing that!!

Kangarilla coach made his team do extra running after their loss to Kersbrook. Kersbrook players were inside singing the club song, and Stringer has players doing sprints after a 10 goal loss!

This used to be one of his stunts when he coached Happy Valley.
I know a number of the players have almost had enough out there and may not be there next year.

Surely a coach who is clearly a bit low on stocks needs a new approach. Not only is he going to force the older boys like sziller and king into retirement. he is going to lose his recruits and maybe even some of the local stock! Nash Stark has already gone walkabouts. They used to be a real force as a club, what has gone wrong?

ORDoubleBlues wrote:Callington was certainly too good over Maccy on the weekend and they showed what they can do when they've got the full compliment of players to choose from. In hindsight, you could say it was headed for one of those days when Murphy and Kempster pulled out of the side and when Michael Thomas did his hamstring in the first 3 minutes of the game. It will sound like I'm making excuses I know but I know that truth be told, you've got to win those games regardless if you're hoping to play finals football.
Bond was certainly very smart across half back and he can still weight his kicks very well to the target, Daniel Jenner was very good even though I don't think he made their best players and Callington's disposal by foot was excellent and was probably the main difference between the two sides.
On a separate note, it was interesting to see both Kangarilla and Echunga both suffer heavy defeats after not having a competitive hitout the week before.

Cheers ODB

Very entertaining game I reckon, with both sides very committed. Cally certainly look the goods on their good weeks. I thought the player who really was the difference between the 2 sides though was Ryan Fox. Tiny indigenous lad who threw his body on the line on numerous occasions and covered the most ground all day. A real playmaker, goes with first option and rarely makes a mistake. Disposals straight onto the boot which is the type of stuff I like to watch. Good to see him named in the Assoc Squad and would love to see him in higher company. I thought Max McArdle really justified his selection there also. I put him in the best 3 for Cally though I note he didn't rate a mention. Cally's 'slowdown' in the last 10 mins was interesting stuff. Did u think it came a little too soon? Very risky stuff. Though again very well coached on the day, I would've left it a bit later.
I wouldn't like to be in the Engine Room at Cally though. What do you do with an A Grade who is only available twice every two weeks? Doesn't auger well for the future and they have no U17's for backup when the plug comes out. As far as I recall, their highest finish in Div2 was in 1998 when 2/3 of the side were local.
Older, wiser and been there. But still love that grassroots country footy.

Adevilatheart your assessment regarding Mt. Lofty best players is consistent with what I saw. The problem we have is that as many as 10 players could have been considered for a mention last Saturday. Floreani had one outstanding quarter being the second. Trigger had the ball on a string in the 1st and Artis was absolutely dominant in the 3rd. Based on those individual efforts each of those 3 were standouts. Trigger, Floreani and Artis had greater opportunity given the positions played and therefore you need to take this into account.
Pencil worked his backside off all day (again) and made my top 5. Young Pistols had to be in the top 5 for 6 goals on debut. Nathan Petersen-Gray was the dominant forward and was a great threat everytime the ball went forward and therefore made my top 5. DK, Coops and Matt Stapes were outstanding and were extremely unlucky not to make my top 5. None of them put a foot wrong but being backmen they have to cop the backmans lot of holding the team together and not get the recognition for it. And so the numbers continue to mount. White once again was very dangerous and improved the longer the game went and finally, rounding out my top 12 were Burchy and the Captain who once again put in a sterling effort and should be admired for his workrate.
Your comments regarding imports (probably) aren't warranted although I must admit I did not have Floreani in my top 5. I may have been tough on him. His 2nd quarter was outstanding but not as good as Triggers 1st and definately not as good as Arties 3rd. Just my thoughts. And that is the point. Those who have the official job will rarely get it 100% right because it is a matter of opinion and there will always be someone who disagrees.

guys like sziller and king are fully behind the coach,as far as the minutes silence it wasnt actually a minutes silence but was after the ironbank game and it was to get the players to face up to the supporters after a poor effort.no walls punched on saturday but a large water container is in need of repair and yes it was one of the greatest sprays ever!

No wonder the Tiges got a blast at half time, I think they went in at 1.3 or something, to about 14.15...
The Tiges were simply outplayed everywhere, and a lack of pace doesn't help. M Stapes and Cutting swathed thru like a hot knife thru butter and that allowed easy escapes from the backlines.
it's Lobey's turn to be where they are...if the 2 teams had swapped guernseys the year could have been 2001, 2002 or late 90's. It's just their turn. Happens to all teams. Lofty hadn't beaten Hahndorf for 10 years (??) until the 04 season I reckon, now they haven't come within cooee of the Devs for 6 or 7 meetings, with many more ahead I reckon.
