Lol does LEH know Simmsy learnt his footy and started with the Eagles?
I'm glad they wear yellow every game these days it suits them.

Enjoyed the game on Saturday as I hadn't rated the Eagles after their effort against West and it appears I was right. Full marks to them though, similar to the Elim Final last year they got closer than I expected.

Never played another game... got 11 matches & quit.

BTW Wedgie, yes I did know that. My understanding is Trevor Hill came to us & Simms went to you.

Going into the game I thought the cocks looked too small.... They proved yesterday its not about size but what you do with it that counts....

Day is not a CHF, but we do need another key forward to help out Ainger. Culley comes from the Treeby school of tough stickers!

North are flag favourites just ask those on that wagon of theirs!!!!

Norwood are the favourites and North are the second favourites with bookies. That is fact.
North can be very proud of their efforts after losing so much talent last year, blokes who were playing reserves a couple of years ago are now in our leadership group. Francou really impresses with the way he gets the best out of people and continues to improve the club as a whole. Long year but a good start especially losing the captain and vice captain to longish injuries and not even getting one of the major recruits on the park for a. league game yet.

Agreed re Dalwood. As far as SOOKTER and THE C WORD are concerned what the **** were the umpires doing? Adjudicate and award a 25 m or two and that will be the end of it. Take a leaf out of the amateurs book . Thuggery has ****** the amature's and now they have decided to do something. Umpires HAVE TO be tough on this issue.

Fair call but they struggle to keep up with the play, let alone seeing what is happening behind it

Geez, a fair bit of vitriol in this string re: 'sniping' & behind the play incidents ... just remind me the last time North won a flag ('91 wasn't it?) & there were no 'gutless acts' or 'sniping' going on in that game, were there?

Hmmm... we all like to remember what we want to, don't we TSG???
I recall Steven Simms retiring after getting 11 games (wasn't it?) - that's the most gutless act of all, go out swinging then retire.
I reckon a few Westie Boys might've been lining up some payback for him, had he not retired.

Possibly the stupidest comment of the day. Go to youtube and have a look at who was playing football that day and who was going the biff. From the first bounce. Stupid comment.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Sims played in 1992 after serving his suspension. His first game back was against the Eagles at Prospect in a game that the Eagles won by 12 points on the 20th June, 1992. I think that you are getting Sims, who was only ever suspended once in his career, and Granger mixed up. Granger retired after his long suspension after that Glenlelg vs Port Preliminary final.

Trevor Hill played at the Eagles from 1981 until 1983. Sims came to North in 1987 so they were never part of a swap. The swap was Steven Sims and John Roberts for Grenville Dietrich and a lad called John Glasson who had been North Under 19 captain and did play a couple of games for Torrens. That was one swap which I think it is fair to say North came out on top with. Other swaps haven't fallen our way.

From Sunday Mail:
"... the Roosters seem to have overlooked what was clearly the origin of the fights - a massive roundhouse right from North rover Steven Sims on West midfielder Mat Simpson. The belt, which was from behind and sent Simpson to hospital, was regarded as one of the most disgraceful acts in Sanfl history."

And that was written by the former West Adelaide under 19 captain.

I prefer to quote from the Advertiser of the Monday after the Grand Final which stated categorically that West Adelaide came out with the wrong attitude and will be blamed for most of the incidents. And from the Grand Final edition of the Footy Times which states that West Adelaide came out to knock North's blocks off and came out second best. And then there is Neville Roberts on the commentary who states about 5 minutes before the Sims incident, North have been very, very composed and disciplined in the face of some of the crudest tactics imaginable. And then there is Graeme Campbell's comment on the replay, West Adelaide have come out with the wrong tactic. They will be blamed for all of the fights.

Sims did the wrong thing was punished heavily, but to blame him for the carnage is like blaming the allies for World War 2.

Isn't there a few threads about the media getting it wrong?

I haven't heard or seen a North supporter say we are premiership favourites. Your post started with such promise too.

At what point of the match did Sims act like a thug? Early on?

Just watched a bit of it on YouTube and laughed at how little had changed at West in twenty odd years, still going the knuckle when getting flogged in GFs. :D

Half way through the second quarter. There had been numerous incidents before that.

He was wrong, very wrong but I have often wondered what drove him to do that. I have heard unsubstantiated stories from North trainers.

Legend has it at 1/4 time the umpires were told if you don't do something about the cheap shots North will.
