Thanks Alaska. My folks live 'out the back' of Lenswood towards Montacute/Forest Range. Has been a stressful day, but thankfully the wind direction has been favourable. Things seem to have steadied in their area at least. Hopefully those living towards Basket Range will be ok as they are under the greatest threat.

Yes, I agree the CFS are invaluable my worry is the gully winds tonight. It went from 2HA to 200HA last night, in every direction because of them, and I have a strong NW blowing smoke at me now, I out of it, but still Hills.
Hopefully, all good for the folks but having fought fires years ago and facing the same threats, I have revaluated my Action Plan and will now leave.
Even with the sprinklers and land management I have achieved, just not worth the heart attack at an older age than when I moved here and had a couple of Ash Wednesday's.
Perhaps have a chat with the olds after this?

Is Jon Blake still around? What a backwards step the move to MMM was. His ego far outweighs his talent... Reckon he'll be off the air within 12 months...

All breakfast radio is absolute crap, and full of fake laughter.

They must think their listening audience is completely stupid and cant tell that its contrived.

I havent listened to MMM breakfast show, but I can imagine what it would be like.

My dad enjoyed listening to Blakey when he was on AA. I suspect he's much more suited to older audiences.

Would be interesting to know what MMM breakfast ratings are like now, compared to before he joined the show.

I know the feeling and sympathise with what you have been through in the last few days. I was checking the CFS web site regularly.
I had a 20 acre property on the Echunga side of Hahndorf from 1983 till 1996, and had several episodes of relative anxiety.
On two occasions the fires stopped on the other side of the road - only the road width away.
As I got older and my wife's health started to fail we had to get out.

I was living in Olinda in Victoria's Dandenong Ranges, just after my wife's death, during the fires there in 2008/9, and surrounded by spot fires with no way to drive out. Fortunately, despite that, none came closer then 8km in the end, but it left a mark. I'm still in a hills environment back here in SA but in a location where the fires would have to burn through a lot of other properties first to get to me.

We should always support the CFS - they do a good job.

My grandparents had a place on Range Road South, Houghton and they were very lucky their place survived the Ash Wednesday fires... Two places on either side got wiped out, and their house wasn't touched.

After the Black Friday fires, the church I used to go to sent a rebuilding team over to Marysville and surrounding areas... We went in October and to see the complete and utter devastaion was shocking... It is hard to describe, but it looked like the whole area had been nuked... I couldn't imagine the terror of what happened there and for the CFS/CFA members who put their lives a risk to try and save people and property deserve every ounce of respect and support we can give them...

Oxford hotel charging $5.20 for a pint of soft drink!
I can get a pint of beer at my local for $5.
The food was cold and a tiny serve, stay away people.

$5? It's enough to drive people to drink! - this does nothing to curb drink driving.

If you were the designated driver on a night out at the Oxford - you'd just about spend more than you're pissed idiot mates.

I like pubs that give out free softies to designated drivers

What is the price of a 600ml bottle of soft drink? If a pub wants to charge you more than that, tell them to shove it where the sun don't shine and ask for a glass of water instead...
