Nathan Bassett - Found guilty of assaulting West coach Andy Collins PENALTY = $5,000

Jace Bode - Found guilty of assaulting West coach Andy Collins PENALTY = 3 MATCH SUSPENSION

Looks like Collins had the best defence tonight...reminds me of the way his team plays!

I am sure many Redleg supporters are looking forward to our next game against West at Richmond on Saturday 8 June...

Home ground advantage at West Adelaide Lakes tonight too

What's interesting is the description in the Tiser summary of the proceedings that "the two coaches began grappling after the bump" (found to have been delivered by Bassett on Collins) to a degree where both a security guard, and players, had to intervene to separate them. There's a melee rule on the field, it takes 2 to grapple, and the much-quoted (by the SANFL) rule 15.1.1 covers "interfer(ing) with" an official, not just assault. And if grappling isn't interference, I don't know what is.

Where Bode on any version got involved in an already-existing physical fight not of his making, he's been extremely harshly dealt with, relative to 2 coaches who've both been very lucky.

The witch hunt continues!!
You beauty, brings us even closer as a group!!
3 week suspension for Jace gives his broken hand time to heal.
Also means he's available for the return stoush at Richmond.

yeah, stop picking on Norwood, they didn't do nuffin! Norwood Oval is a sanctuary where the Red & Blue can do whatever they please.
Fester, if Bode struck/belted/tapped* Collins (as much as most people would like to do as well), then surely you must accept that there will be a suspension of some sort?

Collins said that in a scale of 1 to 10 the strike was only a 1, had he really wanted to, he could have made things worse for Bode. As for starting it, it was mentioned that the players were exchanging words before he got there.

like a clip behind the ears? If that's the case, then 3 matches might be a bit much.

Thats Premiership winning wanker to you.
The game at Richmond will have the usual outcome, Collins doesnt have a clue how to coach against Norwood.
It will be another 8 goals to stuff all game

I did find it amusing that McDermott was recalling a similar incident a few years back when he coached North. Bit of a tussle in the tunnel and next thing he knew he was face to face with Macca and then he ended up flat on his back with a pile of players from both sides on him. He didnt have an issue with it and I cant remember if the league took any action

Times have changed unfortunately. People are too keen to put their hand up and sceam "I saw the whole thing" and give evidence. Bring back the good old days when men sorted these types of things out like men.

Interesting tweet from Tom Rehn who was at the tribunal hearing last night.

" a lot of contrasting accounts including the key security witness who claimed the punch thrown must have been a west player..."

Nice one.

Laughed when I heard that, typical Weslo, no idea. Rehn said everyone else in the room said it was a Norwood player but he kept saying it was a West player.

If this is true, goodbye Bode.

IF true, what sort of penalty would that attract? Maybe thats the reason Bassett went into the change rooms to apologise?

Coaches having a go at other players isnt new. Even in the AFL we have had Malthouse have a crack at Milne and only get a fine ($7k) and even Sheedy with his throat slitting to Mitchell White of West Coast.

However, for a player to assault a coach or an official in what ever shape or form like Bode did, I think he is lucky to get 3. You just dont do it, irrespective of how much force etc. You dont assault a copper or bouncer if they say something you dont like....

Everyone else in the room? Don't make me laugh.

Didn't realise Shipway and Olsen were allowed to give evidence.
