i dont think anyone from any club besides uni would agree with that but how about some people come up with some answers instead of just saying nope ditch the point system this and that blah blah blah

ill offer a solution div 1 to div 3 only have 10 points div 4 to div 6 have 15 points and div 7 to div 8 have 18 points

this can create competition through out all the ranks im sure flaws will be found in what i think but least im having a shot

money is the biggest killer examples E.P..woodville south....could name a lot more but when the cash drys up players walk least with 10 points only handful of players get paid

Lower divs don't need extra points as those clubs can recruit impact players who are worth zero points (ie. reserves players/fringe a-graders from high division clubs).

Isnt the issue the fact that the saafl is losing talent to country, and therefore how can it become so potent that playing in the saafl is the only place to play, ie: tv coverage on channel 44

And I kinda agree that lower divisions should be handicapped, even a 4 relegation system making all clubs very strong down the divs and making seasons seriously interestind and very very lively

No - what we're asking for is that current fulltime under and post graduates at Adelaide University be zero points.

We've got people who have come down from the country or moved interstate to study at the institution and believe that these people should not be worth points. People go to sporting clubs to meet people and feel that this would facilitate new students passage into their academic career. Current undergraduates are issued cards by University administration so it's just a matter of checking the card to see whether people are fulltime or part time students; to nip it in the bud - the University administration has nothing to do with the football club and it's not worth the trouble they'd get into with the Federal Government (budget and legally wise) to try to circumvent the system.

We're not asking for retropsective application - so those players worth points now would continue to be worth points.

Ps - I'm not sure that any players past or present could be called zero pinters there Fourth. :)

I think fair enough. Even better if they get rid of points all together. Has done nothing for the Amateur league.

For once both Shrek and myself agree on something. This thing has been a disaster from day1 hurriedly rushed through with no real due diligence done on the subject. A points sytem of some degree is probably needed but one that is more user friendly than what we currently have and with out the grey areas.

very true but these players are going to average leagues and average sides to make a club more competetive and then these players become standouts after a year or two e.g shane jordan im sure hes on more than when he left considering he has a YPFL medal around his neck, the bloke is a gun and good on him

Goodie Saints knocked us off by 10 points. They kicked 3 quick goals at the start of the last and we couldnt pull it back.

Saw the last quarter of that game.

I love watching Johnny Boxer play, he's an excitement machine! You would've had that game too if not for your 4 minute nap.

Premiership hangover. ;)

I haven't seen the current list either but maybe that those that they have lost were enough to make a difference.

Ok, So there will always be floors in a points system, but maybe something like this:

DIV 1
1st - 6 Pts
2nd - 6 Pts
3rd - 9 Pts
4th - 9 Pts
5th - 12 Pts
6th - 12 Pts
7th - 15 Pts
8th - 15 Pts
---------------
9th (Relegation) - 12 Pts (In Div 2)
10th (Relegation) - 12 Pts (In Div 2)

DIV 2
1st (Promotion) - 12 Pts (In Div 1)
2nd (Promotion) - 12 Pts (In Div 1)
--------------
3rd - 9 Pts
4th - 9 Pts
5th - 12 Pts
6th - 12 Pts
7th - 15 Pts
8th - 15 Pts
---------------
9th (Relegation) - 12 Pts (In Div 3)
10th (Relegation) - 12 Pts (In Div 3)

And so forth for each Division. The basic principal is to even each grade based on performaces, bing the gap between divisions closer together. What you will find, as country counterparts are now finding, soon enough players cant shop themselves around every year, with limited points available (rather than the straight 15 across the board) clubs will be more decisive on their recruits, meaning club hoppers will find their option drying up quicker! Hopefully it will encourage players to stay at clubs for longer periods of time and encourage clubs to promote an atmosphere that entices GOOD players to stay.

Basically 2 players (if 3 pointers) are the difference between the highest rated clubs and lowest rated clubs in each division, the clubs entering the division (either through promotion or relegation) are rated middle of the pack.

Feedback please, happy to discuss any potential flaws/problems to make the solution look better...

Firstly, not a bad idea with the rejig to the points system.

But do you think giving the relegated clubs 12 points is a good thing? Usually these clubs are pretty well placed regarding player lists when they come down a division anyway, and they'll be even better placed when they have more points allocated to them than the 3rd and 4th placed clubs of the divsion they are going to.

I know in some cases teams (Eastern Park, PNU recently) can lose a lot of players when they are in higer divsions and struggle when they get relegated, but wouldnt you think giving the relegated teams 12 points would just create a yo-yo affect for these clubs?
