Don't want to upset anyone here. But watching the second quarter and part of the fourth . I felt like I was watching 18 McGregor's playing!!
Make the ball stop look around short kick back sideways or where ever!!
Eagles fell into the trap kick the ball long to 3 port players in the second term !!
Powell went off at the Eagles before entering the race at half time . Worked for about five minutes of the third .
Last quarter eagles lifted Redden Ainger Joyce Raymond all kicked goals .
From what I saw today Port will have Johncock for a long time .Kick five goals don't use defensive pressure watch as your back man runs down and passes to a forward who kicks a goal !! One of the few times he ran he had to hang on to the point post with Cramp!!

Wasn't a great game but a win is a win !!

How did Salter go in the Reserves? Would be handy to have him and Grocke back.

He looked better but looks lost position wise . To slow to play back at league level !!
Grocke still injured

I'm not sure that Vince or Smith would have made that much difference to day. It was great to get the win, and a fairly comfortable one in the end, but we were pretty mediocre for most of the game. It was always going to be hard to top last week's performance, but a really good side probably would have won by more. Our consistency is a big problem. More than just about any other team in the comp there is a massive gap between our best and our worst, and that'll have to be rectified if we're to be a force in September. Still, the important thing when you don't play really well is obviously to get the 2 points and we did that today...Bring on Ronnie's men.

Not off the mark. That's why they get players transferred as soon as they play reserves somewhere else, so they can play the powers game plan

Agree about winning when you're not at the top of your game, but imho there was a huge difference between your performance last week and this week, and clearly Vince and Smith were huge for you the week before but were missing this week - Perhaps viewing the Eagles minus those two in isolation isnt accurate to be fair. As far which club displays the most inconsistency I dont know, but would imagine a couple would stick their hand up.

IMO last weeks win was a bonus and Vince and Smith were influential and we won't see them again. I said at the time you couldn't read too much from that game.

Being able to win this week (and hopefully next) will tell more. Eagles are easily below Norwood and West, but would be aiming to be the best of the rest and continue to improve as the season unfolds.

Any win is a good win. Godden hasn't got a consistent season out of the Eagles in his time here. Certainly not as consistent as Fuller had them playing during the minor round for the majority of his tenure. However, Godden has proven he gets them playing well when it counts so while they can graft out wins early in the season I am happy.

Yep, the style Ken seems keen to play is beyond that of our teams skill level. SANFL isnt possession football.

Really uneducated comment. The Magpies play nothing like the Powers running attacking (winning) game style.

Just watching the recording from ABC. I always have thought you can learn a lot from watching the replay on tv. In the first quarter I have learnt that the Dugong is a distant relation to the Elephant.

JK I think your missing one major factor from Saturdays game compared to the game against Norwood . Port had small fast running forwards that negated Summer .Against Norwood he was allowed to run free and run with the ball. Against Port he wasn't allowed this freedom !
Eagles also played into Ports hands by not getting the ball in to the forward line quickly in the second quarter . plus losing that fast moving small forward in karpany didn't help but this allowed joyce to play as a small forward .
Mind you I think the eagles this year play better on smaller ovals like norwood and unley !!
I think Mitchell may well in the next week or two prove better than Vince. He seems to attract the ball and move very quickly !!

3 fairly good quarters of footy, 2nd term was poor and thoughtless footy. Goldsworthy stepped up in Bernie's absence and I was impressed with Hall's game and like how they are involving him more in the midfield rotations. Dawson may be on thin ice next week, Fitzgerald and Ellis-Yoelman look possible replacements.

Would rather have Vince than Mitchell any day. No comparison in skill level and clearance ability.
Next week would like to see Fitzgerald in for Dawson and Poole in for Karpany.
Salter gradually getting there but lack of match fitness is a problem.
Need to fix our very poor execution of kicking off after a point.
Could Raymond's flair be used further up field?

Is Grocke far away from returning?

Also, I see Tom Schwarz (son of Peter) was named best in Reserves after being in best players previous two weeks also. Could he be a chance? Kane seems lucky to be getting a game.
