Graeme Hick scored more than 40,000 FC runs so what?

But in saying that supposedly Chris Rogers has scored more than 5,000 runs in the last four years in England with an average above 50.

made two scores more than most of the other aussies batsmen with half the oppurtunites. In both games he top scored out of all the 'recongnised' batsmen.

finished the series with the second best average for the aussies.

lol your defending the undefendable!

I'm supposed to change my view on him based on two scores? The sun even shines on the dogs arse somedays....

He has a brilliant record in the English County Comp and adds cricket experience to the side (does that count at international level, im unsure). From what i have seen of him, Cowan and him are left and right handed clones of each other. If they open together while they will guts it out they will give the Poms bowling attack a great chance to settle in to a spell with line and length without the worry of scoreboard pressure being mounted.

Im not totally against his selection but to me it seems a very defensive/defeatest attitude selection.

Errrr, which of these two left handers is the right hander :? Not sure you have actually seen any of Rogers given that comment.

Nah I made the error of thinking Cowan was right handed when I posted LOL! Shows how much I watch when Cowan bats

Have seen plenty of Rogers his first class record is amazing, will be interesting to see how he goes in test cricket

No but surely you can see how he could be considered unlucky considering his performances in India.

If u ever get past his technique (which has improved dramatically) and actually look at his achievements u will find it sits very nicely amongst the current Aussie bats

As long as they make runs who cares about their technique. Jacques Kallis averages 35 in England and he probably has the best technique in test cricket. That is inflated by his recent 182* too.

its time that Australia just invested into the youth

we are not going to win the next 2 ashes series anyway, and by bringing in the older guys who may not even be around by the time the 3rd series comes along its a waste of time.

time to bring in the kids, and just give them time. we will be far worse off by making this move

not sure I agree we should be worrying about the 3rd series in 4 years. I said in a post a while ago I was disappointed with the selectors chopping and changing for the last 2 years in the lead up to possibly the most important 6 months in Australian cricket since world series. think of it, if we go down hard and lose 8 zip, cricket at the lowest level will be hit hard as well. kids won't play. I assume those that run the game understand this.
I did post my ashes squad a while ago and I think I had paine (haddin), s. marsh (usman, agree must make very good cordial and keeps beer cold, although not as bigger job in England as india !), bailey (chris Rodgers), sayers (bird) and Faulkner is also obviously in there. there is a fair few I got wrong but I am happy with the squad they announced. paine hasn't made enough runs and haddin will give great leadership and support to pup. there is no one else and haddin won't be worried about spot in the team. this tour is a bonus for his career. as for Rodgers getting the nod over bailey, that is probably splitting hairs. I should have had bird in for sayers anyway and Faulkner has impressed in the last few shield matches including the final and is a fierce competitor.
after in indian squad was announced I was thinking we are in trouble, but with this one I can't wait for it to start. sure we have our problems up the top but I think it's close to the best squad we could have picked.

Sorry tige but that's nonsense. Ashes cricket remains a major drawcard for Cricket and at the Gabba test there were kids everywhere.

CA are trying to deny it.
They are saying he has just come home to have precautionary scans and he will be fine for the Ashes

I still maintain that anyone playing in the IPL should not come under consideration for the Ashes tour.
CA has to start making the tough calls
