He played ok - his experience and poise were evident yesterday. Francou said pre-match that last week Chad had played the game in his head too much pre-match and tried too hard hence his output.

Whilst he didn't get of alot of ball yesterday the same could apply to Matty Campbell who to half time only had 1 kick. I think to a degree it was because of the type of game it was, very open in the main and that is evident by the tackle count 25-18 in Sturts favour. North only had 6 recorded tackle stats to half time which is a worry mind you Sturt didn't have many more at that point either. Tackling needs to improve and Sturt would say the same but from my take too many players on both sides for large portions were in the mindset of being able to position to run and carry instead of having the mindset to get the ball first. Once we adjusted our thinking then we did control the ball and play for the majority of the second half. Margin would have been much greater if we had kicked straight. At least 7 of our points were very getable set shots.

Accuracy in front of the sticks and tackling will get a big run at Prospect this week.

Having said that winning ugly this time of the year is ok, no point in peaking in too early and this time last year we were 0-2 heading to a night game at Richmond as opposed to this years 2-0 start going into the West night game. Plus good to beat Sturt at Prospect given they have had the wood on us recently despite our supposed favourite ranking going into the games.

Let the record show that he didn't have a posie when he left our club, he obviously picked it up when he got to Prospect.

Pretty good effort by Sturt given the turnaround in personnel over a week.

Not happy to miss out on the points though.

Just watched the highlights including the tackle by Clinch on Crane. Great stuff but what the hell was Crane doing after he ran off with the blood rule? Walked towards the North bench to have a crack at Clinch and then got involved in a verbal stoush with our Trainers. What a sook! He may have been justified if it was an unfair incident but seriously he should be embarrassed by that little effort!

Had a great view of it from the front of the glass Taj. My beautiful girlfriend who is a Sturt supporter gave me a daggers look when I told Crane where he should go, was funny stuff!
And she spent the first half in the middle of the Grog Squad with no complaints about any behaviour unlike a Dogs fan the week before, she had a ball! 8)

I'm sure Darryl Barrells blast educated her quickly. If she survided that then she is fine! That was one of the longest and most sustained (without a breath) tirades of abuse and profanity ever levelled at the umpires!

Did clinch get sighted for the clash with Crane? or was there something else he is copping 2 games for?
If its the Crane thing then its a disgrace! it was a great tackle and both blokes clashed heads. no free kick, play on, footy is the winner!

No, he was sighted for the clash with Nick Pearce on the outer side also in the third quarter. I was too far away to see what happened in that case but Pearce did come off and looked to be very shaky.

While the tackle on Crane was right infront of us I didn't see Crane go over to Clinch but I was told by a North supporter that another North supporter jumped the fence and gave Crane a serve. Was this the case.
FWIW, I thought Crane should've got a free but I don't think there was anything malicious in it just a poorly executed tackle.

You better watch the highlights then. It was a perfect tackle around the waist. What caused the injuries to both Crane and Clinch was that Crane turned straight into Clinch and their head clashed. Crane actually should have been penalised for holding the ball

Yeh nah.
Thought it was nice of the North runner to give Crane a serve right after getting collected. Class.

I've noticed a couple of times that the North runner doesn't mind having a bit to say to opposition players. Had a few words to Ryan Williams in the night game against the Dogs the week before...

In regards to the Clinch / Crane / Crowd incident, you could see at about the 11:10 mark of the vision below that Crane heads toward the North bench pretty peeved with someone...

Pretty sure that if you run in at speed to tackle someone and your head hits them in the face then that is a free kick. I believe the rule is designed to protect the welfare of the person with the ball. The rule makers are probably trying to prevent a situation where the player being tackled leaves the field bleeding from the head and can't take any further part in the match.

Just need some rules now for conduct of the runner and one about spectators staying behind the fence.....

So Crane expects to walk off the ground straight towards the North bench, abusing a North player who has done the right thing in the opposite direction to what he should be and not cop a serve? Christ, I know I gave him a serve. Could get very ugly if players decide to start chasing other players to their opposition's bench. I'm sure Crane would be very embarrassed with his crying when he sees the tackle on replay too.
I had an awesome view of the whole thing out the front of the glass taj.
No one jumped the fence but don't let a bit of misdirected hysteria stuff up a good story.
Phil Herden made a mistake when he said that in the commentary and by the subsequent pause and then comment about a North official you could tell he realised his mistake.

I saw the Clinch / Pearce "bump" albeit from the back. It was off the ball and a "shepard" type of attempt by Clinch and I thought after Pearce went down if any umpire etc saw it he would be in trouble. It looked like Clinch left the ground and hit him high which makes sense given he is around 178 cm tall and hit a guy a guy around 195cm tall in the head and Pearce was quite groggy after.

I think Clinchy got a couple of games last year for striking wouldn't have helped either.

All good to be agressive and hard but stupid things like that hurt the team overall as we will miss his pace and creativity for the next 2. Whilst I am having a rant it seems to me that we also give away alot of 25's for "undisciplined" acts re going over the mark, being overly aggressive in the "push and shove" bits as well after frees are given. We need to tighten our discipline IMO.

Wedgie, really. As Clinch has come off the North runner with a blue compression bandage on his leg has come out to him and said something, then as Crane is walking off the runner has moved towards Crane and mouthed off at him. Only then has Crane moved towards the North bench to take issue with the runner. Maybe your clubs' onfield discipline needs to extend to your runner also. Crane has nothing to be embarrassed about mate, he's recieved the ball, turned around and been run into with a poor tackle that's collected him high. It's up to the tackler to make sure the tackle is legal, Clinch didn't, and it should've been a free to Crane. What is embarrassing is the call by some that it should be paid holding the ball! Cranes had no prior opportunity to get rid of the ball before being tackled.
More embarrassing is the North player ducking into a stationary Luke Panozzo in the last 1/4 and milking a free and the umpire falling for it. Have a better look at the footage.
