2nd person sliding in I can understand. If they are going to keep the rule I think if a bloke gets the ball first then has forceful contact on his opponent should be play on. For years we want to award the bloke first to the footy and this rule has the potential to make a mockery of things that make our game great....

For years we have also been taught to keep your feet.

Agree ideally footballers would like to keep to their feet.

But as a kid the element i was always taught was win the footy first and the umps will protect you. This is one of the first rules that doesnt reward the player who wins the ball.

I bet all the Power fans were cheering Westoffs bravery and attack on the ball in the last quarter, when he slid in won the footy (on the arc of the 50m line) and set up the goal. If it wasnt for Crows player 'backing out' rather than taking the charge to steal a basketball term he would have been done for the slide rule, which would have ashame imho.

if the crows player didn't crap himself it would of been a free kick or a stoppage. Also that crows player got a blasting for being soft then went on a few minutes later and got reported.

so a player wins the footy then throws a elbow, so by what your saying because he won the footy he should be rewarded and it doesn't matter what he's done to win it?

Did you even read what I wrote

I was saying westoffs attack on the ball was brilliant!!!

But if Vince hadn't shit himself he could of stayed there and took the hit from Westoff sliding in, which to me would have been against the spirit of the game as Westoff deserved the ball despite sliding in.

yes I did read what you wrote. Do you know why westhoff did what he did? it was because crows had free players in front of the ball, if vince had won that ball the crows would of been on. westhoff made the decision that he wasn't going to win the ball but to hold it up and let our players man up would of been the better option. But lucky for him vince was too scared of the contest.

Exactly so the guy with more guts determination and courage to get to the ball won it.

He wanted the ball more, he won the ball and port kicked the goal.

That's the way the game should be played!!

There goes your theory only players who are soft slide for the ball, in this case the guy who went harder slid for the ball

Any more ways u want me to bust that theory!

Oh yeah your theory about players only slide to avoid the contest has been busted as well!!!

As you said Westoff tried to hold the ball up which meant him sliding in 'made a contest' and would have slowed play down if Vince didn't shite himself.

O'Brien reported for high contact on Hodge when I thought the new rule would have seen O'Brien get the free kick?

another one that doesn't understand anything. vince pulled out of the contest, if vince had stood his ground he would been awarded the free kick. Westhoff was trying to stop the play as the crows had the numbers. do you understand?

Westhoff was trying to win the ball as Port were in an attacking position on the field, not stop the play! What part of that makes no sense to you???

the crows had 3 or 4 open around vince, vince was in the better position to win the ball. westhoff would of been thinking how in the heck did I win that. It is also the reason why vince got a spray.

Westoff couldnt of being doing that kickinit.

Remember you said people who slide in are trying to avoid the contest to me that sounds like Westoff was trying to MAKE a contest.

That was the difference between both teams menatlities at that point in time. Port were on a roll and winning everything and the Crows weren't showing any guts! If Vince had of gone in with 3/4 of the gusto he went at Wingard, he may have won that contest. Instead he turned a 50/50 contest in to a certain goal!
