Sturt 2013 - So Far...

Postby rd » Sun Apr 14, 2013 1:57 pm

Have added up the qtr by qtr scores of Sturt's 3 games this season against Eagles, Port and North.

At qtr time Sturt 10-11 lead their opponents 6-13.
At half time Sturt 30-14 lead their opponents 15-25.

How good is that by the Double Blues? Straight shooting for goal coupled with shocking inaccuracy by their opponents indicative of a Sturt defence applying good pressure on the opposition forwards.

At 3 qtr time Sturt 38-18 still lead the opposition 30-39.

Final scores Sturt 47-22 beaten by the opposition 51-44.

In 3 "second halves" of footy Sturt have scored just 17-8 whilst conceding 36-19. Just 25 scoring shots after half time compared to 55.

Sturt appear to be one class defender short noting that in each game the opposition have had a stand out goalkicker - Ainger 4, Johncock 7 and Johnston 7.

Any solution for Sturt's 2nd half woes?

James McLeay, when back from injury, will help shore up your back half...

I think they are doing better than expected but could have done sooooooooooo much better if not for the fade outs.
Only South can save Sturt from the spoon.

Obviously Sturt's fitness is contributing a fair bit, getting steamrolled in the last quarter suggests they dont have great fitness to run out games.
If so that rests squarely with the coaching department

Isn't there more than one side who hasn't won a game yet who shouldn't be forgotten amongst all this spoon talk? :D

There was a big emphasis on skills in the pre-season this time round, at the expense of fitness I guess. I think this has contributed to fade-outs somewhat. By early-mid season hopefully we will have a nice balance.

Despite not getting the points I was happier with the loss yesterday than the victory/fade out a week earlier. At least the lads put in for 4 qtrs.

Done an update to include Round 4's poor 3rd qtr against South.
Qtr time Sturt 14-12 lead the opposition 10-14.
Half time Sturt 37-18 lead the opposition 24-29.
3 qtr time Sturt 48-25 trail the opposition 47-46.
Final scores Sturt 60-32 have lost to the opposition 69-55.

The 4 "second halves" of footy now show Sturt 23-14 against 45-26.
Yet again Sturt had trouble with a key forward - this time Wundke kicked 5 for South.

McLeay - hurry up and come back !!

James McLeay has been playing as a forward since Fraser Evans was swapped into defence.
When he overcomes his injury, it will be interesting to see where he fits in. If he is back in defence I would think John Hinge will become a reserves player.

Hopefully in the ressies Hinge might get some of that centreline experience he was so desperate for...

I don't think he of a high enough standard for even our reserves midfield.....

This is becoming a rather embarrassing thread for Sturt fans but easier to update each week as the template remains the same..

3 qtr time Sturt 56-35 trail the opposition 57-56.

Macca hasn't been great for us for a few seasons now and he's past his peak IMO. He can still provide some experience but he's not one I'd be relying on to steady up the defence. If he can prove me wrong then I can hardly wait to see it.

A fit Michael Coad would help though. I can't believe he's been fit the last few weeks...he had an ankle the size of a rock melon at 3/4 time at Prospect.

On midfield matters it's great to have Crane fit. He's lost a touch of speed but he's playing almost as well as in his first 2 seasons at SFC.

**stat nerd alert**

Sturt's third quarters are the worst for any team in any quarter this year, and have averaged only 17.2 points per third quarter this season while conceding on average 38.8 points.
Their fourth quarters aren't much better - 21.1 for, 33.2 against.

Sturt is one of only four teams to have a 'time in front' percentage greater than 50% in third quarters (53%) but that falls away drastically in the last quarter, leading for only 35 minutes in last terms all season of a possible 145 (31 mins coming in the one match v Port in round 2).

Love the Nerd stats Scott!

If our two teams merge - we could insist on playing all games (no more than 2 quarters in length) away from Noarlunga and we'd be a force!!
