Yes 'the Flo' fit into the team like a good shoe fits a foot. He is an apsolute brilliant player. We can all learn a thing or two from the man.

On another note does anyone know if the Joyce boys are back at lobethal after their stint at their college football club???

Owen - there appear to be plenty of people on this forum that are as passionate about Hills footy as you are. Perhaps don't knock them for having an opinion - it is everyone's right to one. To say on one hand about "anonymous people on forums" and then have letters in the Budget written by the same hand, is a little rich.

Agreed, no personal attacks on people is acceptable, but please pay due respect to people who love their Hills footy too.

And Lobey what happened there? Did Birdwood play out of their skin or were the tigers really bad? I've heard that Lobey are as strong if not stronger in personell than last season yet performances have been way under expectations. What's goin on there? If Rooster is still out there how do you rate your team's performance on satdy and also Lobey as a unit?

All i can say is i know there's a lot of 'should of's' in footy, but Birdwood really 'should of' beaten Lobey on the weekend, we completely dominated the first half, had all the run and the play, but didn't totally capitalize, missed too many easy goals. Then the rain came, and Lobey's slow big bodies came to the front, and pushed ahead. We had also 4 key Agraders out, 2 or which are key forwards and would've made a lot of difference. Very dissapointing, once again 'should of' been Birdwood's first central victory. look out bridgewater.

As for Lobey, old, slow, average. Obviously a few smart old hats running aound still though.

If Lobey are Average, what does that make Birdwood??

...makes birdwood a first year central division side coming up and having a crack at some of the long term central division clubs, and actually taking it right up to some of them. shows that they may have no 'name' players, but have heart and a desire to not be humiliated, which is what everyone assumed was gonna happen.

'not to be humiliated'???? You haven't won a game. Haven't played Mt.Lofty (that could be ugly) and wouldn't make the 5 in Country Div. Don't think front running footballers will hang around when u are losing every week. Either seriously $pend or drop back. You're wasting your time otherwise.

I think Owen would do better than to enter into the debate of what is being said on the forum. Just get the HFL ticking along and the critics have no justification for bagging him.
I know the Joyce father and I think one is there playing at Lobethal, he is probably one of the old slow bodies that Birdwood couldn't but should've beaten !

Cougar are you serious??? some of the things you type on your keyboard are hilarious! One minute your telling maccy supporters they need more heart less money... the next your telling birdwood to "seriously spend" money or "drop back.":roll::roll: And to cap it off you are comparing a now central division club with a country division club! Ironbank managed to keep its good young footballers in the face of adversity last year... If i didn't know any better i would have to presume you are in fact the one and only Owen Lampshade!

Nah, Lamshed's Gumeracha. Don't like them either.

From what I've heard Ironbank have brought on some quality juniors capped with some good spending.

Wouldn't the Central Div Clubs rather play a Strong Kangarilla or Meadows than face a bye with Birdwood?? If you are seriously gonna have a crack at Central, you've gotta spend wisely.

It is apparent is doesn't matter what Central want.
A Country div team needed the balls to step up and start a long-term project at makin git in a higher div.
One team wanted to and they did. 2 other teams didn't want to.
I know who I welcome more.

Nail on the head JQ!

On a different note, can any Lofty faithful out there give me some insight into what i perceive as selection woes! Yes you boys are travelling very nicely with the next three games easy wins, but could u please clarify why a young GUN in S.Broadbridge, (Port Magpies Reserves player) is missing out on A grade selection when a Hack in N. Paech Horne (Junior yet to prove himself) is getting a game!!! I know for a fact the kid works very hard off the ground... So how is this justified?

Wasn't surprising to see him rack up best in the two's... Dare say if he keeps missing out on A grade games with you blokes there may be a few wads of money crossing his path in an attempt to lure, what i perceive as a very underated, young and naturally talented footballer. Im sure players like these are the one's who clubs like Birdwood should be looking at closely!!! This kid would walk into any other A grade side in the competition, Uraidla inclusive.

Birdwood can only be applauded for having the balls others lacked to have a red hot crack when they knew they would be under-manned. I hope that the Birdwood players show the same resolve and belief in the next few weeks and seasons that the club's decision makers showed when they decided to make the move as that makes for a potentially dangerous team. I reckon it was a good decision (maybe circumstance decided this) to not recruit for this season as now Birdwood can build their club coffers, and let the local boys grow against good opposition, then recruit in the coming years with the knowlege of what they need to fill gaps. Better to do that than hastily pick up some money grubbing club sluts or overrated duds in attempt to avoid a year of embarrassment. Remember a young Lofty side filled with predominantly locals used to get punished week in week out, their local boys I reckon would be better for that experience and are now solid Central players, the recruiting they have done has complemented what was already building there. Birdwood may do the same in the years to come, then stick it up all their former div TWO competitors. It's funny as well that all central people applaud Birdwood, it's country div people who bag em, interesting.

I think that you will find that sammy would get a game in the ones at lofty if he did what was asked of him by the coach and understood why he got droped in the first place. i know because i wasn't playing at the time and was helping out in the coaches box. i also told sam over three weeks that if he didn't man up and be accountable whilst playing in a very quolity side he would get dumped.the game lastyear at mt lofty vs lobey his man kicked 5 goals on him and nearky lost us the game. and that was the final straw. and i do belive that if you watch him play in the twos his game plan has not changed a bit. he just dosent get found out as much because the opponant is not as quolity as in the ones.

and as for the devils who got pumped week in week out there is only a few still playing A grade now. sammy, D stapes (when fit) matty stapes, cutts, burchy, bruce daws, baldy, jumbo. and most of them only played in 2004. so what dose that say about building the ability of the young locals. they will piss of if they always get belted.

Seems all the Central Clubs are happy with the Roosters joining the big league. But standing from the outside looking in, they appear to have jumped in head first.......remember 1995? Good Luck to them, but at the moment, they would seriously struggle to make the 5 in Country Div.

Agreed re. Birdwood - I had a bit to do with Hills footy in the early to mid 90's and remember them being outclassed in 1995, but at least having the proverbials to give it a go. There's enough class there for this to be a valuable learning curve for the kids that stick it out - well worth the year or two of pain for what they will gain at the end.

shake n bake ur a dipstick i think ull find paechy has proved himself in the B's week in week out by consistently placing in the best players thus warranting a crack in the A grade, he is hardly a hack and would more than likely be a walk up start into any other A grade team aside from Uraidla or Onkas. when he was on the field last saturday he got some quality touches including a goal with his first kick in A grade footy.

A lot of the other Lofty boys from '04 are still at the club playing solid footy for the best b grade side going around for the last few years so they haven't pissed off. And if people jump ship when the times are tough the club in question is better off without em i reckon. Whether or not Birdwood's decision to move up was brave or stupid is a matter of opinion, mine is if you believe in the plan, have a crack. If you wanted instant success you'd move from, let's say Southern League to, i dunno, hills country?

Shake and bake. Terrible call about young Nick Paech. You obviously have a personal issue with the kid if you mean that. Sam B may get an opportunity this week as he performed well on the weekend. He just has to man up. I think u will find that most of the lofty team would have played Reserves Footy at port in 2005 and 2006. Love to break tackles and never handballs to his team mates. Everyone at Lofty knows that.

Having quality players like sammy b playing in the b grade shows how strong the mount lofty footy club is. Every player in that side would be worried about losing their spot, which inturn makes every player the motive to go a little harder. It is no wonder the club is performing so well in both grades.

As for that disgraceful quote about Nick Paech, that is rubbish. He has shown he can play quality footy but hasnt really got the chance in the a's. I am sure when he gets his chance he will show everyone what he is capable of.

Yeah Agreed... Peachy earn't his spot and did well disappointing he only got a quarter, shake n bake get a grip, sammy will proabably get another shot this week anyway . However it must be demoralising for these young players to only get a quarter or so in the a's. I know for a fact that some of these young lads just want to play footy and play a whole match each week. I was lucky enough to play over three quarters in my first game of A's and it gave me the desire to to play A's again. These boys however are getting tired of sitting on the bench each week for over a half a match. There looks to be a bit of a rotation system going with these young players but to seriously develop some of these young players into serious a graders wont they need more that a quarter a week in the a's???
