McKenzie medal is a waste of time, let's be serious it's like the brownlow medal where unless you have a certain role you're never going to be a chance.

Unless you are an all-rounder you are never going to get within cooee of the leaders.

Mine would of gone to T Gebauer, no the umpire (J Williams) gave them to Al Hewitt. While Al bowled well I am sure as hell that Travis set up the win with his knock on day 1. I wonder what some of the umpires look at.

The medal lost relevance the year Oz hit 900 and took 25 without getting an invite, especially the day he hit 200 and didn't get a vote.

How the person counting the votes didn't query some of those is beyond me. I don't expect administrators to over rule the umps but you'd have to strongly counsel the umpire that the votes must be wrong.

Most of them do a fantastic job in sometimes difficult circumstances, sometimes they get it wrong. which obviously the umpire did on that occasion with Oz.

Yep my 3 votes would go to Travis, hitting a 100 is a tremendous achievement, unlike bowling you only get one mistake when you bat, on top of that given Craigmore won the game you would have to say is innings had a major influence on the result. 3 votes, Leo 2, raffle off the 1 vote.

It's beyong me how a side can get so comprehensively beaten and manage to get 1st and 3rd preference votes! It's like how people seem to think that if a side gets smashed in footy, the losing sides best player should get the 2 votes still. As far as i'm concerned, if you aren't in the best 3 players involved in the game then you have no right to anything!

Going back a little further again, just before we left PDCA to play in churches we were told one of our blokes had won the div 1 medal and that the presentation would be done around 7:30. Our posse turned up around 7pm only to be told they'd already done it. Apparently they'd got through the other presentations a lot faster than anticipated and decided they didn't want to wait so just went ahead. Read out the winner, but at 6:30 he'd not arrived yet, being told he only needed to arrive by 7:30. So in their wisdom the association decided to award it to the second place. Also not there. They then moved to third and the bloke was there but thought it such a farce he refused to accept.

I think there is still no official winner for that year but there's been a push for some time for the original winner to be officially recognised but 20 years later, I doubt he'd care one bit.
