Also heard that Blackwood and TV are getting extra points for 2013 as well as Nairne and one other team.
Whats the point of having a points system when a club like Blackwood can get extra points. They have clearly the strongest depth of all clubs but need to get extra points to be "competitive"???
And don't get me started on the TV mercenaries!!!
I seriously don't understand the way the board thinks![/quote]

Agree with your post. I have not heard this myself but would be puzzled if true. This year mt barker have less pts than Uris, even though the cabbage boys have played in 7 of the last 8 GFs :? Surprised Blackwood needs extra pts - there's no cap in the B grade :D

Interesting to read posts on juniors. I have no solutions, but am convinced all clubs are working hard to ensure every kid gets a game wherever he/she chooses to play. I have been involved in junior programs across multiple sports and can tell you the HFL is extremely healthy and productive position in comparison to other programs.

You smoking Crack Muddy Roo?

Mt. Barker should have the least amount of points. They won the GF last year after being given an extra point due to an administration mistake by the HFL. When the rules are that clear cut, they should not have received it regardless of how many points they were told they had.

Secondly, how in the world could you call the junior system HEALTHY. You have most clubs in Div 2 struggling to fill all three junior grades. And now clubs like Uraidla in Div 1 struggling to fill these sides to. All at the same time as 5 or so clubs will be telling kids they can't have a game of footy every week because they have too many players.

No mate, the grand kids think its weird when they come round and pop is on the pipe

Admin error? I don't know about that so ill just say you're correct. If it makes you feel better we played he GF with 3 pts spare!

My view is that he junior system is healthy and productive compared to other sports I've been involved in yes. I said nothing about numbers - I'm aware this is an issue. The clubs and program as a whole are working hard in the right direction. Just my opinion mate.

Very well said. I have enjoyed the excellent reading and diverse points of view. Who, when and how will no doubt open a can of worms. I would be interested to read ideas on how a 'neutral panel' could be recruited.

From the perspective of the clubs that have U13 gold teams. At the moment we have 2 full sides (38 to 42 players) where they all get a game every week & get maximum game time. If we were to cap the numbers at 30 then straight away 5-8 players (depending on how many a coach wants for a game) miss out on a game each week & the ones playing only get 3/4 of a game. In Onkas case of the 10 players we have said "sorry you have to go & play somewhere else" some would just not play footy & stay at home playing x-box, some would probably play soccer for Woodside with siblings & the others would go to either Lobethal or Uraidla. So capping Onkas wont help the country teams at all. Blackwoods extra numbers would more than likely play in town, maybe some ending up at Ironbank. Mt Lofty's would go to Bridgewater (as some did last year when they tried to help Echunga). Hahndorfs & Mt Barkers could probably end up at Echunga, Maccy or Meadows but not guaranteed, which still leaves Kersbrook, Gumeracha & Sedan in trouble.

A proposal was put to the Country clubs to have 3 year age gaps & their priority was to fill the senior colts & junior colts teams & only if they had enough players then enter an U13 team. This proposal would no doubt have helped Kangarilla field a S/C team & probably would have left no gaps in the country S/C & J/C programs except for Sedan/Cambrai. I think this should be the path to go down first before capping clubs & if that fails then some mergers need to be seriously looked at.

How many U13's gold teams are there this year?
Also Blackwood beat Sacred Heart Old Collegians last night, not sure of the score

There are 5 x U13 gold teams which have been incorporated into the country U13 comp to make a 12 team comp.

Not sure if there are any Uraidla posters on the forum but well done on the trial yesterday! Was a great hitout for us and we appreciate the spirit and fair play that the game was played in!

You guys were very strong around the ball, with great composure around the ball and skills across the ground. Good luck for the season ahead!

Cracka I think this is why in one of my earlier posts I stated, that the cap would extend if two teams were entered in any given age group! IMO the cap is about ensuring kids play football, as much as it is about potentially helping clubs struggling for numbers!

Noticed a certain umpires coach out at the Hills cricket GF carrying on and abusing umpires from the sidelines! I guess he's only an advocate for respect towards officials in the winter! Not a great look...

I was under the impression that the struggling clubs wanted the cap so the bigger clubs could not have the 2nd teams at all.

Does anyone know the result of the mt barker v yank trial today? Heard that both teams were pretty much full strength. Yank starting a week after Easter (1week before the rest of the comp) would be trying to get settled you would think.

Can guarantee you that Yank were far from full strength. Played with a squad of 27 exposing alot of senior colts and regular B Graders to a taste of A Grade footy. Was a scrappy game at times but played in great spirit. Barker got up by a couple of goals i think. The new digital scoreboard looks great too!!!

Saw the second half of the Hahndorf and Happy Valley game which was a pretty good game to watch and close too.
From memory Hahndorf got up just which would surprise most SFL people who tipped HV to smash them.

I also saw the trial between Echunga and Mt Lofty on the weekend and have to say if that was Lofty's normal side I really don't know why Echunga decided to stay down in the Country division!

Echunga won by a couple of goals but were missing about 7 A graders, all very important players.

Were many missing for Lofty?

No apparently not many out for Lofty... This from a senior Lofty official.

Good signs then for Echunga despite all the negative crap on here. A few juniors may surprise as they showed good signs as well

Lofty had about 9 out from their first trial including Nielsen, Stapleton, Burch, Broadbridge, Van Paridon, Paech, Gonzales and their first choice ruckman so not a true reflection of their normal side. Echunga looked well drilled though and moved the ball very quickly. First three quarters of the 6 period match was Mt Lofty B Grade who were very undermanned and gave the A Grade a 10 goal margin to catch up.

Yeah I only started keeping scores when the A graders came on.
I thought the game was quite scrappy really to be honest.
A lot of young kids from both sides trying to flex their muscles in a trial game just looked stupid. Maybe if they focused on playing football they would give more to their team.
Echunga looked like they were missing Cranna, Fleety, Henke, White, Sheehan, Maslin, Koop, Munn and Pocock, plus Pickett if he is still playing there.
It would be great to see Luke Tester back out there for the Demons!
