I've got a money box full of shrapnel I want to unload.

Yeah a couple of branches around the place have them.
I know nab has one at one of their branches but cant remember which one.
Ring NAB and they should be able to tell you.
Danny Southern telling Plugga he's fat, I'd like to see that!

why do banks operate differently to the rest of the world?
No other business closes early so they can perform balance and checks- they do this after business hours.
I suspect the only efficiency banks have cheerfully embraced in the 21st century are profit-driven.

Banks are a little different than most other business'. The amount of cash kept on premises means they probably dont really want customers around when they're moving it around and when the safes are open.

Then they probably dont want to have to pay the overtime rates every day for people to stick around and do it after hours.

Probably wrong on both points, but thats what I think..

Actually, the official explanation is that one of the perks in working at a bank is standing by the windows, or security monitor, and watching all the people running toward the bank doors within 15 minutes of closing, then laughing at their frustration when they realize the doors are locked.
Could only happen with the early closing times, and apparently "it's a scream".

Banks are a time wasting experience.

I do everything online.

When i win 3+the sub on x-lotto & i get a check in the post, i chuck it in the bin.

I don't want to waste 35 minutes of my life in a Que for $8.70.
Smile :)

Pick another branch or time of day?
I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes in a queue at the ANZ or BSA in Stirling.

I can't say that for HSBC in Adelaide or Melbourne, but I got good quick service from them in Aberystwyth when I was there.

Don't you go to a news agent to get your winnings and they pay you cash?

It tends to make you worry about having money in banks generally, but particularly in banks anywhere in southern Europe...

You beauty! My favourite comic before I discovered Asterix in about 1980.

Yeah, I enjoyed Donald Duck comics too :)

Although not quite up to standard of Archie, Richie Rich, Tintin and (original) Ginger Meggs.

Back on topic, I believe the opening/closing hours are an entrenched work practice, and perhaps are unlikely to change any time soon. If anything - and this is just a guess - they are probably more likely to cut their hours in the future, as the IT revolution races ahead.
