As they should.

Twice this year in A4 there have been instances of artificially watered pitches and no penalties to the home side.
I also recall a game last year that never got underway and was called a draw.

While I disagree a draw is the correct result here, the precedent is very clear and Fulham should expect it to be enforced.

This game had commenced with Penfield putting on a very hard score to beat. Fulham should have taken neccessary steps to ensure pitch was ready to play on Day 2, they didnt. Result has to go to disadvantaged side.

So if Penfield were rolled for 115 and the Sprinklers come on overnight Fulham automatically get the win as they then become the disadvantaged team?
The game situation shouldn't come into it, needs to be 1 rule for all to avoid any confusion.

The simple fact is the turf have elected not to enforce a forfeit at each occurance this season, and now they have changed their stance just cause it is finals? This is not a good look.

Couple of solid ice blocks on a length would have just the same effect as a drenching from the sprinklers

I agree, very dangerous to start playing hard ball in finals when you have been reluctant to make the hard call during the season. I remember Gepps Cross playing Port Districts in A2 a few years back. At the end of day 1 Gepps Cross were 3/80 chasing 120. Mysteriously the sprinklers came on the Friday night/Saturday morning before the second day and Port Districts escaped with a draw. ATCA have had plenty of opportunities to make a stand on this issue, so it is surprising to see them do it in Finals.

Played in that game. Whoever it was that looked after that ground (it was when Gepps had their pitch dug up and we played at LJ Lewis for the year) told us that the gate to the sprinkler system had been busted open. Dodge.

when did this happen in A4 trader

1) http://atca.sa.cricket.com.au/common/pa ... ntityID=38
2) http://atca.sa.cricket.com.au/common/pa ... ntityID=38

The game from last season I was referring to was this one:
http://atca.sa.cricket.com.au/common/pa ... ntityID=38

And as SMG pointed out, it's happened in A2 a couple of years ago.
I bet we could find half a dozen examples of it happening each season. Very few of them (if any) the turf would have enforced a forfeit.

Well done ATCA.
You wanna host finals then make sure it's even both days.
So be it if someone has to sleep on the pitch overnight on a Saturday.
Too many cheats in ATCA over the 20 years I played.
Mr Heyzer can go to the front of the queue.
For the rest of you dicks that have cheated in the past in the finals or have failed to communicate with your council correctly the gig is finally up.
You are responsible so suffer the fate.

Several Fulham guys on Facebook caning ATCA tonight!

Think they should be worried about their own backyard first.

Very disappointed to hear they appealed, they obviously would not have had a problem playing in the Grand Final after what happened. This staggers me, as gutted as I would have been, you could never live with yourself going through that way!

Well done ATCA for dismissing appeal. Hopefully this is the start of it, and from now on teams get a forfeit if it happens again.

Staggered people out there like Trader, etc sticking up for Fulham, to me it seemed a no brainer of a decision, total common sense!

Put a bloody big traffic cone over the sprinklers if you have to!! But its the home clubs responsibility to correctly engage the council and ensure the pitch is playable.

I was also very surprised Fulham appealed, i would hate to be the bloke that didnt look after the pitch ;)

Sorry Trader, but that sentence appears to be having two bob each way!

What is the only fair decision ATCA could have made? That Fulham lose both games.

Most people would say this is fair. If they allowed Fulham to go through to GF, the uproar would have been huge.

There was no other decision they could have made. Precedent set now for 2013/2014 and beyond!
