Good to see you blokes can't actually read written English...
Never was said kids don't go to the footy. My original post about it was they couldn't give a flying **** about it.
Being there and having a kick at half time is different to turning into a life long member who will be passionate about the sanfl. I feel that the AFL competition will win with these kids.

I spoke to a lot of supporters at a west v glenelg trial last week and there were numerous (not all) supporters who said they'd throw in their membership and wouldnt bother with a comp where two teams focus i not about winning. (See what it has done to the VFA/VFL).
I doubt I'd go in 2014 if they allow this to happen and have these concerns
1. Sponsiorship will gravitate to the popular power and crows reserves sides
2. Volunteers will see a career path through to the crows / power afl side
3. Kids will gravitate to the reserves sides and no longer support their sanfl clb especialy if they are not doing well. I teach kids and winning teams attract support
4. Top up players - NO way do I want any junior from my club leave to play against us.
The more I think about it, the more likely I'd give the game away an do something else on the weekend. Maybe we need a petition to present to Chris Davies now and all supporters who are members to make their thoughts well and truly clear to their respective CEO's and presidents befor its too late.
Our competition has too much history and pride to become a B-Grade apologist competition to AFL clubs who we wont even own.

There are a heap of kids at our local club that wear SANFL jumpers proudly.
Where do you think kids as young as 10 go from club footy if they show a bit of talent?

In England alot of the local clubs have had this idea where at each ground not only is there a family area, there is a teen area, the way it works at Chelmsford FC, is kids between the ages of 10-13 can be dropped of at the football by the parents and have a designated area to watch the game, this also includeds child care workers who look after the children until the end of match. The kids are giving half time food and drink and the players make sure to interact with the kids area after the game before leaving the pitch.

In 1991, used to go on Crows Cheer Squad bus to Melbourne Friday night for game Saturday return Saturday Night then SANFL on Sunday. I was not alone in this.
That was before wife, kids and mortgage.
When in QLD for 5 years (1993-98) was part of the Crows Brisbane Supporters Group.
When I moved back I even rented at West Lakes 300m from AAMI Stadium
BUT
I found with a new family that the SANFL was just as enjoyable, a lot more accessible and much better value for money.
With the kids rather than having a seat and it being like a 3hr airplane flight at Woodville they could roam around the hill and have their own space.
I am still a Crows "follower" but will only follow them when SANFL commitments allow.

West .... give them back the fine ! XXXXing disgrace a club has to sell off assets and almost close down due to some stupid law no one can comply with. Your charter is to assist clubs not send them broke SANFL.
If not for the AFL there would be no salary cap so who is running SA footy the SANFL or the AFL ?

The last thing you'd want is no salary cap resulting in a large gap between the haves and the have nots

Not crap at all. I'm not talking about kids who play footy. I'm talking about kids who follow footy, call themselves Crows or Port supporters. I work in a lot f schools, generally teaching PE, and I specifically ask kids about it, because being a lover of the SANFL, the future source of support concerns me.
southee wrote:On kids following the SANFL, I think kids are losing interest in the game as I know at least 3 or 4 schools in my local area that can not get a team together even when they are combined!!!
Sad days as I remember fighting to get a spot in a side as a kid.
