Cricket, NRL, A-League all have national reserves comps, so should the AFL, best result for all parties.

yep, then there will be no more bitching, accusations or grey areas. IF they play in The SANFL, they shouldn't play for points.

Why is it only Port Adelaide (AFL) players that seem to have this issue?

Crows only seem to shift theirs when the player asks them to so. Luke Jericho crossing from West to Norwood being the last that I can recall.

Just doesn't seem to happen with Crows players, been at least 6 Power players in the past 2 years

Reckon Jericho swapped clubs after he was delisted from memory

6 in 2 years? Can you name them?

Salopek
Motlop

Banner and Motlop in the last two years hey?

Banner moved to the Magpies from the Eagles at the end of 2009 ( start of 2010 )

I dont recall either Motlop playing at the Magpies.

I didnt say to the Magpies, I was talking moving clubs. The Adelaide Now atricle with the link in this thread mentions 4 Power players to the Magpies from other SANFL clubs . Think you will find Motlop came to West May 2011 ;)

He joins Mitch Banner (Eagles), Steven Salopek (Glenelg) and Danny Butcher (North) in seeking a transfer to the Magpies since 2011

Any Crows players to move in that period of time Booney, seems a little one sided

So, is your grizzle about players moving to the Magpies or just moving in general? Just so I know.

As for Crow players moving in that time. Someone who cares less you will not find. :D

Dont like they move players to the Magpies for reasons that make no sense, unfair advantage. Seems that the Power have scant regard for the the other SANFL clubs. When the original concept was talked about, I am sure the only benefit the Magpies were meant to get were saving in the joint administration costs, not players coming to the Magpies.

I realise you dont give a rats about the Crows but they dont seem to move players to gift them games like the Power do. Maybe thats one reason their list is better than the Powers

I know some time ago Mark Williams and Port put SANFL clubs off-side with the relationship regarding player use....might be some old wounds that the SANFL clubs are yet to get over.

All in all, I stand by the fact that first and foremost he is a AFL listed player with Port Adelaide and it is they who decide what is best for him. Along with every other player Port has moved over the years.

Ryan Willetts comes to mind....

It tracked along the graph in a similar manner to that prior to his move.

You are correct they are Port Power players. Why have a mini draft for Port Players then? You cannot think that moving Ben Newton because Collins cannot guarentee him a game all year is the right move for his development. Earn your stripes. Hope his form is good enough for the Magpies to keep him in the midfield all year otherwise they will again look foolish.

Will Robbie Gray be moved next week if Collins doesnt play him in the midfield this trial game? I doubt it and I am sure they will but conditions on his use this weekend.

Ryan Willetts just didnt have the ability to play AFL, as many drafted players dont. He was given a very good run at West and plenty of opportunity but just couldnt go to the next level.

@Doc...Matt Lobbe certainly improved when he moved away from the Magpies ;)

I really don't have much of a problem with all this ... for me, the less AFL players on the Bays list the better.

Whilst some AFL players have been mostly good, e.g.. Salopek, Logan, anyone related to Studley, Lyons, Douglas, etc, there have also been those who disrespect the SANFL *cough* softcock *cough*.

Whilst SANFL clubs generally try to accommodate the AFL players on their lists, it's also understandable that an AFL club wants their players to be in the positions they prefer. Of course, the SANFL coach needs to be able to fit the AFL players into their team structure and game plan, whilst trying to accommodate their AFL counterparts but if there is a conflict, their SANFL duty will always take precedence.

Occasionally this breaks down and the AFL club (or the player themselves) will want a move.

This is all OK as long as the parties respect each other's position ... and it shouldn't be a one-way street, dominated by the stance of the AFL club. The SANFL club is helping to develop the AFL player, gives them invaluable 'match practice' and they also have to nominally account for the AFL player in their salary cap, even though the player is paid by the AFL club. I know at the Bay, Massie is genuinely happy to see the AFL players on the club's list progress to their AFL team and he will help them as much as they can be the best footballer they can be.

Co-operation and goodwill is the key.

I haven't lost sleep over the AFL players on the Bays list that have swapped SANFL clubs. It's always good fun giving those players stick from the boundary and because we all know each other, they can take the banter. Willetts for example always responded with good humour when we used to yell out that his heart wasn't in it.

The AFL players in SANFL teams are generally either up and coming fringe AFL players, coming back from injury or players at the end of their AFL careers. Often they are in poor or bad form and their head can be in a bad place. Notwithstanding that, as highlighted above, there are some that will always give their all.

To conclude this rambling, those that squeal like stuck pigs about all this maybe need to chill ... the AFL player they generally are losing to the Magpies (or any other SANFL club) are generally struggling to make their sides league team, and will hardly be a long term prospect at their club. If they end up at the Magpies because they are now the defacto Power reserves side then who cares.
Dunno, I’m just an idiot.

It seems to me that when half of you are whining about Port getting an unfair advantage and the other half are mocking Port for taking on players who are no good then it probably isnt that big a deal anyway.

Move on.

I think the fact the old rule about the bottom side getting first choice of these blokes is now gone is the biggest issue here.

It 100% makes sense that an AFL player who is not getting the best career oppurtunities at an SANFL club can be moved on, it's their income, their job they need the best chances to make that happen.

But surely if another club can give this player the exact opportunities he needs than surely they should have the exact same chance as the Magpies to get the players services. This doesn't seem to be the case in the last couple of years
