No, it was a good deck. Ashbourne made about 5/180 odd in their second dig.

Why is it that everytime a team makes a low score on Turf, people question the state of the pitch ?
Plenty of low scores are made on that matting shit and it's just put down to shit batting :?

Agreed Jackpot, no hiding behind a dodgy pitch or any other excuses other than we batted like shit!!!
The Bulls proved there wasnt anything wrong with the deck by hitting well over 400 runs on the same pitch...

It sure makes for a very interesting semi against Strath seeing as we havent beaten them this seaon!

Yesterdays results showed the good state of the 'A' grade comp in A&EHCA in that Woodside beat Nairne the previous week in the Courier Cup and then get THUMPED by the 7th ranked Ashbourne and by doing so have cost themselves a home final after slipping to 3rd as a result of Staths outright over Wistow.

This weeks Semi Finals

Nairne v Hahndorf Nairne although not playing that well recently should be clearly too good for Hahndorf.

Strath v Woodside Strath with the presumed advantage of playing home on their turf may be slight faves but really a toss of the coin this one.

Does anyone know how the ladder positions in the AEHCA A2 comp finished up?

Nairne beat strath outright by 9 runs with both teams needing to win to make finals. Calli after being top most of the year would have missed out if strath won outright on 2nd innings. I think the ladder will look like this:
Woodside (also won outright v Maccy)
Nairne
Mt bk
Calli
Strath
Lobey
Maccy

Woodside v calli at home both teams rely heavily on there bowling attack. Woodside to win if they get Jordan out cheap if not could go either way.
Nairne v mt bk after seeing nairnes bowlers last week I'm picking nairne to win this one. Mt Bk rely heavily on pulford and Buckland with the bat. With most of there kids not doing much except watch Buckland bowl all day

C grade Hahndorf miss out I think? With a lot of teams hoping this would happen after hahndorf pulling there a2 team and keeping a c grade in. Hahndorf posted 4/372 v ashbourne so everyone would be happy not to be facing them in a final!
Good luck to all teams competing in finals. Let's hope we see another nairne v strath gf in the a grade.

Lobey took it up to Nairne most of the day but 200 was always gonna be a tough task. Better second half of the season by the boys but a bit of work to get back up there again next season!! Don't count Lobey out!

Pretty remarkable that Strath ended up jagging 2nd spot after Woodside have held it all year. Strath might be hard to beat...fairytale victory against Nairne in the GF on the cards??

Been a pretty good second half of the season for Ashbourne - they've definitely been way more competitive than last year and from what I've heard they've gained a bit of respect around the comp this season. Good to see a little club taking it up to some of the bigger clubs in A grade - everyone loves an underdog - Woodside v Ashbourne sounds a bit like Woollies v the corner store

Will be interesting to see what happens in A grade next season.....will an A2 side want to go up and if so will there be pressure for the Creek to go down to A2.....surely not? They were grand finalists last season!!

While the cards fell for Strath in the A grade I think they might have suffered a bit of bad luck in the lower grades. My look at the ladders shows them missing out in both A2 and C grade by a point or two in both. I reckon Hahndorf have actually made it in C grade after not fielding a team for the first half of the year.

Bring on the finals!

Thanks K. A2 looked like a pretty even comp all the way through the season and would have been a good one to play in, same with the A1, B and C grades. Not really sure about the Ds as I didn't follow it. I think the Association got the draws spot on with only a couple of exceptions. Good luck to your blokes in the finals.

Mt Torrens could only muster 140 in reply, which was better than Palmer's 113. So a rematch of last year's GF in the A Grade. Game will be played at Mt Torrens. Gum have won the two matches between the clubs this season.

Seems Woodside have got the choker chain on early this year with the pathetic effort against the second bottom side in Ashbourne.
The Stallions would be doing cartwheels at the prospect of playing a home final against the "Wobbly Warriors" :Hangman:

Nairne tuned up nicely in their run into finals with a good win against Lobethal.
The Razorbacks should beat the second wave of Germans in successive games to claim home ground advantage in the GF.

Good luck to Gumeracha in their bid to knock off the Pirates in the TVCA... dont let them win it again :vom:

On past experiences Ashbourne batting first on a dry deck and the week after it is damp after having no rain for months, just wondering thats all.

Fair enough o.f. , wasn't aware of that. Couldn't imagine that it would have ever been deliberate tho.
After all these years, i'm just sick of hearing "It must have been the pitch" when ever a low score is made on turf.
Yes, there are times when the condition of a turf pitch will be a contributing factor in a low score but more often its a combination of bad batting and good bowling and fielding.
Interesting that i reckon the most difficult turf deck to bat on this season for the Creek 'A' Grade was their game at Ashbourne back in Round 3, was a very 2 paced pitch making shot making difficult but despite that the Creeks piled on about 325

 nice try. The Ashbourne Cricket Club takes great pride in its turf wickets and would do nothing to sabotage the pitch or the clubs integrity as you are suggesting. What may have happened was low temperature after scheduled mid week watering (which must occur to prevent the pitch from breaking up). The reduced evaporation leaves the pitch damper. This is in no way intentional, its just luck of the draw with the weather - ask your curator (who is very good at his craft), he'll tell you the same thing.

As Jackpot said, it can be a two faced and difficult to bat on at times, in fact I stated this would be the case for the A grade match between Ashbourne and Hahndorf (see post). Turf can certainly be challenging as Jackpot said but you can make runs on these decks if you play with a little bit of patience. the 325 scored by creek was backed up with 270 by Ashbourne the following week, both teams batted well on a tricky wicket which Ashbourne is notorious for, especially earlier in the season when there is still alot of moisture in the soil (traditionally we have found it difficult to get on Ashbourne oval for round 1 as it is too wet ie: waterlogged).

Tips for this week;

Nairne to defeat Hahndorf
Strath to defeat Woodside (on a perfect deck :D)

I like your passion Roxy and probably shows the progress the club is making out there! I'm a fan!

As for those of us with hard wickets it's great to be able to get out and test skills on a turf deck regardless of the quality. Anyone checked the decks over in India lately?

Each of the three decks in A grade at the moment are unique and add an extra dimension to playing cricket in the A&EHCA. I wish we could all be playing on turf but practicalities with weather in the hills plus the enormous effort that goes into organising a turf wicket make it pretty hard for a lot of clubs!

Let's get behind the 4 clubs that have turf in the comp and support them.....keep up the good work Jackpot and Roxy! And while I'm handing out compliments - great job Couzy this year curating Strath and the Creek!!!!

My tips for this week:
Best teams all year have been Nairne and Woodside so I'm going for a Hahndorf v Strath GF. Finals is a very different game! Hass to smash a huge hundred for Hahndorf!

Hey i love playing on turf wickets,it chucks up a lot of variations unlike hard wickets but i play elsewhere now, batsman show what their worth is on turf wickets not mat covered concrete ones, as for Ashbourne dont judge a book by its cover.

Haha, sounds like you might have had a run in with Ashbourne over the years old fullback....nothing like a good rivalry between local clubs....I assume Strath and Ashbourne have had it since the early days!

We've got plenty of teams we love to beat - footy and cricket!

Good luck to all teams tomorrow! Should be a super weekend. Be great to see Gumeracha finally get up and claim a TVCA flag after a 25 year drought! Cameron Sumner and Pagey the keys in the top order again.......

Strath got woodside all out for 205 today at strath. Woodside were 1/54 after 11 overs then 2/94 after 41 so slow going diring the middle period. Strath did well to contain them. The comps leading wicket taker mark 'swingking' abbott ended taking a 'hat-trick' great effort especially in a finał. Strath inform with the bat finally, hopefully should just get over the line. Any other scores from the grades today?

Gum batted all day for about 170-175(?). The elder statesman Cornish top scoring with 60-odd before being run out by a teammate. Should be a good finish tomorrow unlike last season.

Not a big day for the Pirates in the B's, rolled out for 38. Mt Torrens got the runs 1 wicket down.

Cant see Strath getting 205. In form with the bat? Just about every team are in form with the bat after playing at Wistow the week b4 at this time of year. 200+ batting 1st wins about 90% of finals these days.

Nairne humiliated Hahndorf. Hahn 66 to Nairne 5/150 odd? b4 the game called off.
