We know a shield final will never be played at Adelaide Oval again. Members knew this when voting for the development.

This year will be interesting if the Vics host it.
Shield Final is 22-25th March and Carlton v Richmond is scheduled to play on the MCG on the 28th.
I thought Glenelg was upgraded so shield can be played there

Pretty sure there was no vote on never playing a shield final at Adelaide oval ever again. Drop in pitches will fix that.

Footy takes over the oval before the final is held

From the SACA paper sent to members before the vote -

"SACA will have use of
Adelaide Oval from 8
October to 14 March
in each year - five
months and one week."

Given those dates, why no SANFL finals there then?

Playing SANFL finals bar the GF there that draw tiny crowds relative to Adelaide Ovals new capacity of over 50000 would be embarrassing.

Never understand why sporting clubs need to pay tax on pokies revenue. Clearly the money is going back into the community, the same reason churches don't pay tax.
Do they tax club profits outside of pokie revenue ( if by some miracle a club made a profit these days ).

They did get a crowd of 22,000 for the first or second week of finals a few years ago. Think it was the day Chambo kicked his 100th goal. A good 5,000 ran out onto the ground.

2008 - 4.5 years ago.
But that was a once in a decade thing. We had a strong Glenelg, Sturt Norwood and Centrals. 4 of the big 6 and a quite even final series (ie Sturt had Centrals on the ropes in the QF final the previous week yet the doggies got up and went on to win the flag).

The Glenelg bandwagon was in full force, +loads of Redlegs and Sturt fans and a huge army of Dogs fans. No Eagles and No West (and no Souf of course). No need for PA(M)FC or the other big 6 member the Mighty Roosters to boost the crowd.

"A 22,568-strong crowd converged at Adelaide Oval this afternoon for the second week of SANFL Finals. It was the largest recorded attendance since 1998 when 23,102 footy fans attended the First and Second Semis.
Sunday's turn-out represented a 35 per cent increase on last year's Semi Finals crowd of 14,764. "

Reckon the crowd was pretty decent the week before too, when it was Port v Taylor Walker followed by Sturt v Central from memory

They used to tax the portion of club revenue that came from non-members. Don't know if they still do - have been out of it for a while.
